- Uncle Scrooge uses a strange perfume he bought in an auction, which makes him go crazy. His nephews must find an antidote with the help of a famous British detective.
- On a foggy street in London, a wealthy couple are seen being accosted by a shadowy figure, given the title, "Jack the Tripper." The London Police give chase, but lose the Tripper near the residence of Dr Jekyl. Unknown to the two, the Tripper is inside the residence, and overhears the officers talking about the reclusive scientist, who ended up going crazy, and giving money away like a madman.
Looking over the abandoned property, the Tripper finds a notice saying that the house's items have been auctioned off to pay outstanding debts, with the items shipped to Duckburg for the auction.
Some time later, Scrooge and his nephews are at an auction house in Duckburg. After seeing his nephew Gladstone Gander purchase a low-auction trunk that yields a small fortune inside, Scrooge eagerly bids on the next trunk up for auction. However, a small bidding war takes place, with the Tripper in the room, eager to win. However, Scrooge gets the upper-hand with a $1,000 bid, and the Tripper storms off.
Scrooge opens the trnk, but just finds an old hat, cape, and a bottle of cologne. Spritzing himself with it, his nephews are shocked when Scrooge claims he is now "Uncle Moneybags," and starts throwing what money he has at anyone! The boys manage to calm Scrooge down by throwing water on him, but not before the Tripper finds them, and 'trips' them up, taking away the cologne bottle.
Later that night, Scrooge awakens from a nightmare in which he couldn't touch money. Smelling some of his own cash in a safe in his room, the "Moneybags" persona reawakens, and the boys end up dousing Scrooge again.
Figuring there has to be an antidote to stuff, the boys find the trunk came from London. Scrooge and the boys then head to Jekyl's mansion. It soon turns out the Tripper has been using the mansion as his own headquarters, using the cologne and spritzing wealthy Londoners. The boys and Scrooge come across the Tripper's cash-stash, and Scrooge acts up, running off into London giving away the money in his pockets!
The nephews are unable to catch him, and decide to ask for help from famed Junior Woodchuck member-turned-detective: Shedlock Jones! Jones has already figured out why the boys have come to him, but claims he's too busy to solve their "little problem." Jones is instead, focused on capturing a Professor, by the name of Moody-Doody.
Leaving Jones, they hear word of two officers who have heard of two rich men throwing away money in Tra-la-la Square. The boys get there in time to see Scrooge and a wealthy pig patron being taken away. They try to vouch for Scrooge, but the officers won't let him go until the rampant money-craze is cured.
The boys then return to Jekyl's mansion, only to find the hidden money gone, but Jones upstairs looking around! Jones explains that he decided to help the boys, and in doing so, they uncover a secret passage behind the fireplace in the house. It contains Jekyl's secret workshop, along with the antidote to his "moneybags formula." A journal tells that the antidote will only cure those who have been affected for less than 48 hours.
The boys and Jones attempt to head for Scotland Yard, but are 'tripped up' by the Tripper, who assumes the antidote is more of the moneybags formula. TAking it, he rushes into Duckingham Palace, and spritzes the Queen. When nothing happens, he takes her crown and dashes off.
Fortunately, one of the nephews uses a bar of soap, and this time, it is the Tripper who is tripped up...along with being revealed, as Professor Moody-Doody in disguise!
The group then goes to Scotland Yard where Scrooge is spritzed with the antidote. Cured, he thanks Shedluck for his help, and he and the boys head home.
