Wasted Opportunity, so sad
2 April 2009 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

Wizard's First Rule is a gripping novel. Every single chapter is full of action and suspense. There are numerous plot twists and surprising moments, and it deals with serious issues and universal problems which apply to the real world. The translation to a TV series should have been easy, the book is practically written like one.

That is why it is so sad to see such a brilliant opportunity to bring Terry Goodkind's world to life wasted. The worst part is that I find the cinematography, the location and even the actor's are great. The script, however, is simply awful. It must have been written by someone who has never been near to the original book. It contains every cheesy stereotype of what a fantasy series should be, completely ignoring everything that made the book great. You might as well go watch some run of the mill, 10 a penny fantasy series, because the story has absolutely no depth. I understand some of the harsher parts of the book have to be toned down, but any resemblance between this TV series and the book is pure coincidence.

If you have not read the book, buy it. I can guarantee you will be hooked after reading the first chapter, even if you generally do not like fantasy novels. In my personal ranking, it sits beside The Lord of the Rings as my all time favorite.

If you have read the book, I am sure you have better things to do with your time than watching this.
