This seemingly perfect, progressive family is in actuality harboring deep rifts. Then, one of the children begins to see things others cannot. Is it mental illness? Or something else? Ava & Oprah

28 July 2016 5:00 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Kieran, here.  It was recently announced that Ava DuVernay would direct an adaptation of the classic children’s fantasy novel A Wrinkle in Time for Disney starring Oprah Winfrey. The script is to be penned by Frozen scribe and co-director Jennifer Lee and will also star Amy Adams and Kevin Hart. Winfrey is also collaborating with DuVernay (off screen) in the capacity of executive producer for the upcoming Own series “Queen Sugar” staring Rutina Wesley (“True Blood”).

While A Wrinkle in Time may seem like an odd career zag on paper for nearly everyone involved, pairing Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey together again after 2014’s justifiably lauded Selma should have movie-watchers willing to follow this director-actor duo to the ends of the Earth »

Preacher is one of my favorite series currently running on TV and it's going to be released on Blu-ray and DVD October 4.

The first season takes a while to get going, mostly because of character development but it really gets going. Lots of gore and is damned hilarious in spots. Very interesting characters as well. Can't wait for season 2. Read more about the upcoming release below.

From the Press Release

Based on the popular 1990s cult comic book series of the same name, the critically-acclaimed Preacher: Season One arrives on Blu-ray™ and DVD October 4 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The darkly comedic, hard-hitting, supernatural thrill-ride follows Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper, TV’s “Agent Carter,” Captain America: The First Avenger) who, after a supernatural event at his church, is thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between. »

‘Homeland’ Director Lesli Linka Glatter is Fearless (Emmy Video)

25 July 2016 3:01 PM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

It isn’t news when Lesli Linka Glatter earns another Emmy nomination for directing “Homeland” (Showtime) — this time, she’s gotten two, as well as sharing Best Drama with showrunners Alex Ganza and Howard Gordon and the other executive producers.

From the start, Glatter has deployed the rigorous discipline she learned from being a modern dance choreographer to meticulously preparing everything she does, from storyboards to character analysis.

After her AFI women’s directing program short was nominated for an Oscar in 1985, Steven Spielberg hired her to direct an episode of “Amazing Stories,” a huge-scale World War II battle sequence with soldiers storming a beach and 150 extras. Then there was nothing she couldn’t do. While she went on to direct the 1995 teen classic “Now and Then,” she has found more nourishment from television than movies.

She earned DGA and/or Emmy nominations for her directing on “Twin Peaks,” “Mad Men, »
