Every once in awhile, I come across a really low budget, independent, almost amateur, kind of horror film that I really quite like. One of the previous ones that I liked enough to post about was Bloodbath (1999, Dan Speaker), which was an interesting take on the Elizabeth Bathory story.
Today, I ran across this little French-Canadian (though filmed in English) film about a serial killer invited to an annual meeting of serial killers, in which the usual agenda was the killing of a stripper and a lot of drinking. The "hero" of this movie decides that that's not bad, but wants to get rid of a few of the other serial killers as well, leading to a movie that has a few good and gory kills, some nudity, some cannibalism and a few nice views of the city of Montreal from on top of Mont Royal (for those who like the city).
This is not a great movie by any means. It has the feel almost of community theater and looks as if it was mostly filmed in an abandoned cinema, but it is somewhat entertaining, has an interesting story and is an interesting look at guilt from a serial killer's perspective (but don't try to get too deep here).
If you like some really low budget, filmed on video, yet fun movies, then check this one out.
