Pain and Torture
Hitchcoc20 March 2019
This is another case of the little guy trying to outwit the big one. Unfortunately, the grand plans don't always work out. This episode is filled with pain and torture and misery. The pharmaceutical company, claiming altruism, is really a money grubbing entity. There are brave people here, but perhaps they could have gone about their business in a more subdued way. Leo has his own issues. He needs to decide whether an old friend should be stopped in his tracks.

A very satisfying conclusion to a poor opener.

The hunt begins to try and track down Nikki, Leo faces several personal conflicts.

Leo is still in court witnessing the trial a friend Professor Clune. It falls on him to follow either his conscience or his heart, to either help or condemn Clune. He sees Clune with wife Sylvia, it's a difficult decision for him.

I thought the dental torture scenes were a little too much, slightly too gruesome for Silent Witness, more fitting to a horror movie.

Much better then the first part, the story is more cohesive, helped I think by the arrival of Joseph Mawle's character. The corruption element also helps the story along, you will be left wondering if all the bad guys were taken.

7/10.

This series is just going too far at times

Warning: Spoilers
The torture scene was too much, the nudity of teenagers is too much. I'm sure this could have been done without this much gratuitous nonsense. It is an interesting series and I like the characters. Hopefully it will get better.

Too Extreme
callladd24 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Other than Nikki and DCI Mumford, the characters in this episode were very annoying (Harry, the "spook", the mother at the medical board hearing) or flat out hateful (Claire, the pharma guys, Leo). Leo has never been my favorite and after what he did at the board hearing, I truly hate this character. As for the storylines, both were predictable, the only surprise being just how extreme the torture scenes were.

Too many things didn't make sense
thisisanya4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This one lost me. What happened?? So many things didn't make sense. Why were the rabbits so important? Couldn't the activists have just taken a picture of them? How would the company even know these rabbits are still alive? Why would this business hold people hostage and pull their teeth out? Way over the top - they're businessman, not torturers. And surely some employee would bloody notice. And who the hell was Simon Traynor talking to on the phone? It could have been anyone. Clearly as a policeman he wouldn't just listen to some rando on the other end of the line. Lastly, why would they just shoot Adrian at the end? There was no justification for it. He didn't hold any kind of weapon, or threaten anyone at that point. That would've been against any police protocol, and probably illegal. But no one protest, not even Nikki who just spent the last hours chatting with him about university. And why would none of the extreme animal rights activists protest against their friend/boyfriend just being shot for nothing?? And also mention that a guy from the company just threatened them with a massive gun and ran away with those animals. It all just makes no sense whatsoever.

Lastly, the episode portrayed animal right activists in the most stereotypical way ever, as if everyone who cares about animal rights is a crazy loon that lives in the wood and violently attacks businesses. It was all not coming together for me. Maybe my least favourite SW episode.
