Storyline

Harry and Nikki deal with the case of a young woman who is found dead in an animal shelter. Her dead body has obviously been posed and the autopsy reveals she may have been tortured before death. Information from police intelligence suggests that they may be dealing with a group of radical animal rights activists. It all becomes quite personal for Harry when Nikki is taken prisoner. It's also a difficult time for Leo who has been asked to appear before a medical council hearing and testify on the propriety of a close friend's medical research. Harry has been offered a prestigious chair at an American university, but has had difficulty discussing the issue with his colleagues, especially Nikki. Written by garykmcd

A fairly average story.

Claire Ashen finds the body of a young woman at an animal shelter, who's been posted, with photos of other potential victims left on the wall. Harry discovers the woman was tortured prior to death. Harry is offered a job at a University in America, much to Nikki's annoyance. Further bodies are found, and Nikki is kidnapped.

Leo is conflicted, having to give evidence to an enquiry into Professor Clune, who's researching motor neuron disease, he and wife Sylvia are friends of Leo's, Sylvia suffers with the disease. Clune is charged with illegal operations.

I'm a massive fan of Silent Witness it must be said, but even I struggled with this one, it's not the acting, which is very good, Nicholas le Prevost in particular, I think it's the actual story, it's so bleak and grip, with no light moments, even Nikki and Harry are at odds with one another. The cops are pretty dislikeable too, Andrew Havill is so underused.

The conflict Leo faces with colleague Professor Clune is the best element of the story, so many awkward questions are raised, morality, compensation etc. The cliffhanger is great, although Nikki gets kidnapped so frequently I'm surprised she batted an eyelid.

It's watchable, but one of the lesser episodes from a great series, expectations are always so high. 5/10
