Welcome to Earth

Here is a bit we have never seen the trio visit or mention before. An ancient stone circle in West Yorkshire.

Compo, Clegg and Foggy encounter a space watcher from the Heckmondwike extraterrestrial club. He is certain something will land soon. He has a friend who knows all about computers and another one who works for BT and they have done their calculations.

Foggy decides if aliens land, he should be the one to organise a reception committee for them and he also rings the local newspaper.

Before long the space watcher goes from a figure of fun in the pub with rumours flying around that aliens have landed.

This is certainly not the best of the Christmas specials, it actually borders on desperation. You can gather this with the prominent billing of John Cleese as a special guest star. He only turns up for a few seconds in a post credit scene. Ten years earlier we had Getting Sam Home which was brilliant and it has been downhill since then.

Actually Roy Clarke has fun with the three men on a bike scenario as he recreates an iconic shot from E.T. with naff special effects. Ronnie Hazlehurst has fun with his variation of his Summer Wine theme for the scene.
