Mr Magic and Miss led.

Truly, Entwistle, Billy and Alvin are trying to track down Mavis McDonagh of Jamieson Street, an old flame of Smiler's. Howard is worried that he's getting older, and losing his looks.

The previous episode had me laughing a lot, this one sadly is a little more run of the mill.

Lots of Nora Batty bashing here, she's getting it from all angles here, her hats and ample frame are the subject of much jollity, it does give the episode a vintage feel. A shame we didn't have the customary scene between Alvin and Nora Batty, so often the best bit.

There is actually a great scene between Pearl and Howard, he's worried about getting older, and becoming less attractive, she takes huge pleasure in compounding his misery. Howard's scene with Auntie is fun.

Some amusing moments, but not a classic, 6/10.

The McDonaghs of Jamieson Street

When I was a teenager, a lad came round looking for a girl he fancied back at primary school. I told him she does not live here, never have lived here and why do you think she will even remember you after 5 years?

Smiler starts worrying if he became a millionaire, he will have no one to leave his money to. Then he reminiscences about a lady he fell in love with during the war. He spent one afternoon with her and she said look me up one time.

Now over 60 years later he wants to track her down. She was called Mavis McDonagh and probably lived in Jamieson Street but that street has been torn down.

It was a kind of plot that Roy Clarke had for Compo. Imagine some elderly woman being confronted by Smiler some 60 years later, a bit creepy.

There were better scenes between Howard and Pearl. Howard tells her: "There was a time I was Mr Magic." Pearl replies: "I was miss led!"
