The shortest distance and at the same time the most obvious gap between the so-called Third World Countries and Europe is the Straits of Gibraltar. "Fair Trade" is one of the many stories that happen there every day.

Plot Summary

In Tangiers, a young Moroccan who speaks German meets the ferry from Spain and greets a woman who's probably in her 30s. He is Nico, she is Mirjam. Their attitudes are furtive. What's going on? He takes her to a flat where he lets her hold an infant, a 10-week-old girl. She smiles and expresses satisfaction, then asks to see the baby's mother. A distraught young woman is brought into the room. She weeps. Mirjam hands Rico an envelope of money. He agrees to meet her tomorrow in Spain. She returns to the ferry. Is a fair trade in the offing?
