The survivor of a human hunt finds refuge with the Quests and warns them against visiting Dr. Ashida's Island, but the Quests continue on. Welcoming them graciously, eminent Dr. Ashida soon shares the results of his improved gene therapy on native lizards headed for extinction. They're now as large as crocodiles, ill-tempered, and controlled only by a huge, one-eyed servant named Sumi. Repulsed before a staged dragon duel-to-the-death, Benton leads his group away. Dr. Ashida guides the subsequent discussion to a point where he can challenge Race to a judo match. Though employing unsportsmanlike conduct to win, Ashida loses. He then forces Race to accept a challenge against sumo wrestler Sumi, which Race, with difficulty, also wins. Now, in final retaliation, Ashida waits for the Quest party to leave his castle so he can sic his dragons on them. Written by
