The in-game achievement "Zombie Genocidest" (Kill 53,595 Infected) is a reference to a Dead Rising in-game achievement "Zombie Genocider". In Dead Rising the player needs to kill 53,594 zombies. This is the population of the town of Willamette, the game's setting. In Left 4 Dead the player needs to kill one more, 53,595. One piece of graffitti on walls in a level says "Otis is dead - headed for the city -Frank West". Oits is the helicopter pilot in Dead Rising and Frank West is the main character.
