IMDbTV Pick: Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

The subtle trick Showtime's "Penny Dreadful is that it is far less about the blood, gore and the specter of gruesome death than the sharp pain and exhilarating pleasure of living, and the terror of feeling alone even in close company. Read our review in the May Picks section.

SPOILERS

I am not afraid to admit it, I am a huge fan of game shows, I just love them. I was very excited when they advertised this. When they finally showed it it was not a great as I expected, it was still a very good mini-countdown. Five months after it aired I am right here commenting on it. Why? I have absolutely no idea. I guess I am just desperate. It is a good countdown.

Here is the basis of this countdown. Really, the title says it all. Bil Dwyer shows us a full-length episode of a game show and places it. For example, the game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was at number five and showed the episode where David Goodman won the grand prize of one million dollars. Get it? I thought so.

Overall, this was a nice little countdown that a fan of game shows will definitely like. I was actually so surprised and also so happy when Match Game was voted the greatest game show of all time. That is my favorite game show, but I thought the Price Is Right had that spot as the greatest game show. Anyway, this is a really nice countdown of the classic and not so classic game shows.

8/10

Recommended Titles: Match Game, Jeoparody, and Family Feud.
