The title comes from an obscure 1908 poem by British academic and poet Minnie Louise Haskins (1875-1957). Suggested by the Queen, George VI incorporated the opening lines into his Christmas Broadcast in 1939 as shown in the episode. Even Haskins was unaware that he would use it. The poem became so associated with the King that the lines were inscribed at the entrance to his tomb.
