Hear the Birdie

****SPOILERS*** It's when Horatio Shute, Arthur Space, was murdered in a home invasion of his mansion Chief Robert T. Ironside, Raymond Burr, an invited guest came on the scene not only to discover Shute's body but try to find his murderer. It's later when Shute's loyal butler is almost murdered in his shack on the mansion grounds it become apparent that Shute's killer wasn't after any jewelry or money from his victim. He was after Carney's pet black bird Mr. Micawber who has information in where the $250,000.00 of a three year old armored car robbery is hidden! It's the person arrested in the armored car robbery Grimes, Tony Corbi, who's on San Quentin's death row for the shooting death of one of the guards who in his job behind bars as an animal trainer trained the bird, Mr. Micawber, to recite the place when the loot is stashed away.

In a role he'd rather forget, playing second fiddle or feather to a bird, Burgess Meredith as Carney the butler does his best to stay focus in his role even though being in his 60's he seems to be suffering from dementia in trying to remember his lines. It's up to Ironside to get to the bottom of all this in finding out that a dog whistle would get the bird to tell them where the money is. And after that he'll need the person who's out to get the bird ex-convict Arnie Simms, Bill Fletcher, and also the ex-con pet store owner McKay, Jack Kruschen, to interpret what the bird is saying. That's by letting Simms girlfriend Edie Tompson, Katie Browne, impersonating a reporter who's doing a story about Chief Ironside to kid or bird-nap the bird when Ironside purposely has his back turned to her.

***SPOILERS*** You can say that the bird's the word in this Ironside episode in the bird Mr. Micawber being the hero without the bird not even knowing it. All the bird did was say a few world that it didn't understand that lead Ironside and a squad of policemen straight to the hiding place of the stolen $250,000.00 from the armored car robbery. That by following Mckay Edie Thompson and Simms to where they knew where it was.
