Skyfall Five Years Later: Is It Still the Best Bond?
Five years ago, Skyfall made its way into U.S. theaters. It remains the most financially successful James Bond movie of all time and, in the eyes of many, it's the best entry of the Daniel Craig era (though, Casino Royale might have something to say about that). While we wait for Craig to make his last turn as 007 in James Bond 25, let's take a look back at Skyfall and what makes the movie so special in the long, storied history of Bond on the big screen.

Let's rewind the clock a little bit and try and put ourselves in the shoes we were wearing in 2012. The last James Bond movie fans had seen was the much-maligned Quantum of Solace in 2008. Coming off the truly fantastic Casino Royale, which is quite possibly the best debut movie for a Bond actor in the history of the franchise, the movie was,

Will Monica Bellucci Return as ‘Bond Girl’ Along With Daniel Craig?

Will Monica Bellucci Return as ‘Bond Girl’ Along With Daniel Craig?
Now that Daniel Craig is back as Bond, will Monica Bellucci be back as his “girl”?

Bellucci is being coy about rumors that Craig wants her to reprise her role from the last Bond outing, “Spectre,” in the new installment of the franchise. Bellucci’s agent told Variety on Wednesday that the actress is neither confirming nor denying rumors that she might appear in the 25th film to feature the suave super-spy, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2019.

On Tuesday evening in Rome, where she was feted with the Virna Lisi lifetime achievement award, Bellucci smiled at reporters who asked her to comment on the rumors, telling them: “I can’t say anything.”

Bellucci’s appearance as one of two “Bond girls” in “Spectre” made a splash in 2015 when she was dubbed the oldest Bond girl ever at 51. Four years older than Craig, she made it clear at the time that she did not like the

‘All I See Is You’ Review: Blake Lively Shines In a Silly But Surprisingly Good Erotic Melodrama
Why do James (Jason Clarke) and his visually impaired wife Gina (Blake Lively) live in Bangkok? It’s a question that hangs over “All I See Is You,” begging to be asked. We know that James does insurance work somewhere in the Thai capital, but the way he brings it up in conversation makes it sound like an alibi. Usually film characters take jobs in far-flung destinations towards the end of the story, not before it starts. In truth the answer couldn’t be more obvious; it’s there the whole time, right in front of our faces, visible to everyone but Gina. Or maybe she sees it too, and — like us — simply doesn’t want to accept the fact that her doting husband moved her to a foreign city because of her debilitating blindness, and not in spite of it.

It can be nice to feel needed, but there

Blade Runner 2049 to Bond 25: yes, Mr Villeneuve, we expect you to direct

Like Christopher Nolan, Sam Mendes and Peter Jackson, Villeneuve is a rare example of a visionary film-maker with franchise nous. Can he get the 007 gig?

Sam Mendes may have done more than just reload 007’s Walther Ppk with box-office bullets when he took on Skyfall five years ago. For decades, Bond production company Eon vacillated between recruiting indie directors with a handful of arthouse hits on their hands (Quantum of Solace’s Marc Forster; Die Another Day’s Lee Tamahori) and tried and tested industry stalwarts (Casino Royale and GoldenEye’s Martin Campbell; The World Is Not Enough’s Michael Apted). But in the wake of Mendes’ success in taking Bond past the $1bn mark for the first time, then almost repeating the feat with 2015’s Spectre, an entirely new calibre of film-maker is being mentioned to take charge of 2019’s 25th official 007 movie.

Flickering Myth Film Class: How to Open Strongly

In the latest instalment of Flickering Myth’s film class, Tom Jolliffe looks at how to open strongly…

It takes a great deal to get an audience to succumb to your film. You need to keep their attention for the entirety of the film. The best way to hook them in of course is to open strong.

Whether an action film, horror, or any other genre, setting the tone for your film is essential. Even if you know you’re going to flip things up and surprise. If you begin with subversion, then the audience can expect something a little unexpected. Of course whether they get that is down to the skill in translating a strong opening and making it last through until a strong finale. There are countless examples of films opening fantastically only fall away pretty quickly. For a recent example just look at Spectre. Fantastic opening. Whilst

Daniel Craig Wants ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Director Denis Villeneuve to Direct ‘Bond 25’

The upcoming 25th entry into the James Bond franchise has been in up in the air for a while now: almost long enough and almost troubled enough to start to worry more than a few onlookers. There have been innumerable rumors surrounding its leads, director and even potential storylines. And, all told, they are varied, extreme and frequent enough to suggest that the studio behind the film doesn’t have much faith in the current direction of the spy series. Although the revamped 007 movies started with a bang with 2006’s Casino Royale, many consider its follow-up, 2008’s Quantum of Solace

Blade Runner Director Denis Villeneuve Tipped For Bond 25

From Blade Runner 2049 to Bond 25?

Sources close to UK tabloid Daily Mail (!) have claimed that series star Daniel Craig is pushing for Denis Villeneuve (2049, Arrival) to direct the as-yet-untitled Bond 25. Neither MGM nor Eon have announced anything official just yet, but this isn’t the first time that Villeneuve has been linked with the coveted gig.

Two months ago, Deadline brought news that the film’s director shortlist had been whittled down to three, at which time the so-hot-right-now Villeneuve found himself in the company of Yann Demange and David Mackenzie of Hell or High Water fame. Daily Mail didn’t mention the latter two candidates in this latest report though, which leads us to believe that Denis Villeneuve has emerged as an early frontrunner to helm Bond 25.

We should stress that the Daily Mail, like most other UK outlets, has a notoriously spotty track record

Blake Lively in Official Trailer for Marc Forster's Drama 'All I See Is You'

"Well, we don't really know what me is, do we?" Open Road Films has unveiled an official trailer for All I See Is You, the latest from director Marc Forster (of Stranger Than Fiction, The Kite Runner, Quantum of Solace, World War Z). Blake Lively stars as a woman who was blinded in a near-fatal car accident when she was young. She now lives in Thailand, happily married to her husband, played by Jason Clarke. When she receives implants and can see again, their lives and relationship are upended by the truths that come to light. The cast includes Yvonne Strahovski, Danny Huston, Ahna O'Reilly, and Wes Chatham. This seems like an odd relationship drama that has been quietly sitting on the shelf all year. It almost seems like there's some twist in this where it turns out he's a serial killer, or something, I can't really tell. Take a look.

The James Bond movies' special relationship with America

Mark Harrison Sep 19, 2017

Kingsman pulls the leg of the James Bond series - but how have the 007 films put across the relationship between Britain and the USA?

When Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service exploded into cinemas in 2015, it gave the iconic James Bond franchise much the same irreverent treatment that the director's previous Mark Millar adaptation, Kick-Ass, gave to comic book movies. Reviews focused on how the film recontextualised the familiar 007 tropes of guns, girls and gadgets through the lens of class, identity and that notorious final bum note.

In the sequel, Eggsy and the Kingsmen run up against a crime syndicate known as the Golden Circle with a little help from their American cousins, the Statesmen. It neatly shows us that American iconography plays much the same role for their opposite numbers, that liquor-themed codenames will stand in for Arthurian monikers, and most accurately of all, that

Rumored James Bond 25 Plot Has Folks Comparing It To Taken

As is the case with the wait that accompanies any entry into the enduring James Bond film franchise, rumors are expected to swirl before Eon Entertainment holds one of their official press conferences that are surrounded by much pageantry. And with 007’s next big screen outing not arriving until November 2019, it could be well over a year before we once again witness such a thing.

Recently, word on the street has consisted of things such as Beyonce being the next big name to lend their pipes to the series’ proud tradition of memorable opening titles themes and, quite frankly, that actually sounds believable. After all, one could argue that the some of the best theme songs of the past have all been recorded by female vocalists.

When it comes to plot, however, that’s where things get a little more iffy. Not long ago, Raymond Benson himself debunked rumors that

Report Suggests Beyoncé Is The Frontrunner For Bond 25 Theme Song

Just like all the other 24 James Bond films before it, the embryonic and so-far untitled Bond 25 will have its identity shaped by two very distinct factors: its title and theme song.

In keeping with tradition, MGM would typically reveal those two key Bond ingredients in the build-up to release, though it’s far too early to expect any firm details on what the studio is planning for 007’s next big-screen outing. That being said, and after a long saga of ‘will he, won’t he?’, Daniel Craig put the rumors to bed earlier this month by announcing his return for Bond 25, which will be remembered as his last.

Yes, following a multi-picture contract spanning Casino Royale, the largely forgettable Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre, Craig’s time wielding the license to kill is coming to an end, and the actor has made it his mission to go out on a high.

Daniel Craig Confirms He Will Play James Bond Again

Daniel Craig Confirms He Will Play James Bond Again
Daniel Craig is giving the people what they want. During an appearance on CBS' The Late Show Tuesday, Stephen Colbert asked Craig if he will ever play James Bond again. "Yes," the actor said before standing up to shake the host's hand. "I think you're the greatest Bond," Colbert told his guest. Craig made his debut as the secret agent known as 007 in Casino Royale in 2006. He reprised the spy role three more times in Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015). Before the interview could continue, Craig wanted to apologize for being evasive with other reporters. "I've been quite cagey about it. I've been doing interviews all day and people have...

Daniel Craig to return as James Bond
Actor will be back as 007 one last time.

Daniel Craig has confirmed he will return to play James Bond in an interview on Us television.

Craig appeared on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show last night (15 August) and the host asked if he will return to the series.

“Yes,” said Craig, adding: “I have been quite cagey about it. I have been doing interviews all day and people have been asking me and I think I’ve been rather coy. But kind of felt like if I was going to speak the truth I should speak truth to you.”

Craig added that it will be his last appearance as 007.

“I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note and I can’t wait,” he said.

Last month Eon and MGM announced that the 25th Bond film will be released in the Us on November 8, 2019.
