Of the three CSI shows, I always thought this was the best because it centered more on the crimes than on soap opera material, kinky sex stuff, and whatever. Thus, I raised an eyebrow at the opening scene of this Season Three opener when we see two 20-somethings disrobing for "bungee sex" off the Brooklyn Bridge. Don't tell me.....
Well, this premier episode quickly settled into two good crime stories so my fears are allayed at least for the first week. What was notable was the appearance of a couple of new women: Claire Forlani as "Dr. Payton Driscoll" and Emmanuel Vaugier as "Det. Jennifer Angel." Of the two, it looks like Forlani will have a regular role since they also showed her in bed with Gary Sinise in that opening scene, as well. She's okay but her strong accent is slightly annoying. Vaugier reminds me a bit of Vanessa Ferlito, who left the show after the first year. I liked her a lot so I hope "Det. Angel" is a regular, too.
The two stories, in nutshell, involve young and very rich people. One guy is killed and has a metal miniature Statue Of Liberty implanted in his chest. He was the dead guy the bungee jumpers discovered on the bridge. (I presume it ruined their evening of wild sex.)
The other victim is a female with bruises all over and some LSD-type markings on the roof of her mouth. She was found dead on the floor of her penthouse.
Some other notes: It was an interesting a now gray-haired Michael Nouri in a small role......It looks the stylish camera-work is more so now, which is fine with me.
Overall, a "fair" episode, not quite up to par for a season opener but okay. (Note: I am watching this season a year later on DVD and after watching the second week's story, I think they should have used that one - with the "Holly Golightly" jewel thieves - as the opener, since that was really a unique and cleaner opening scene.)
