Daniel Pearl(Dan Futterman) and Marianne Pearl(Angelina Jolie) are married to each other and both reporters. They are friends of Asra Q. Nomani (Archie Panjabi) in Karachi (Pakistan). Daniel contacts Sheikh Gilani (a jehadi) to conduct an interview, and is abducted. Now the search for him begins, and it is dramatized in detail in the film. Eventually, it is discovered that the interview that Daniel was going to was a mere setup. Not only has he been killed, but decapitated. Months after learning of his death, Marianne gives birth to their only child.
