Riot In Cell Block Thirteen
dougdoepke5 July 2018
That prison brawl among the women is pretty graphic and well-done, likely the entry's highlight. At the same time, actress Gloria Henry scores as a sympathetic con, Judy. She carries the poignant half-hour as we root for her to find a way out of her dilemma. As a con, she's being threatened by her cell-mate, a blonde toughie, Ethel (Millan). Seems Ethel's connected to an outside racket that exploits ex-cons. Judy's suddenly on the list for parole but she's scared of the racketeer Conroy (Picerni) who's waiting for her. So she's scared of staying in prison and just as scared of leaving. A real dilemma. Good thing she knows Pam. Note, in passing, how all the female inmates appear young and attractive-- as they say, "only in the movies" (or TV). Good also to see that fine utility actress Kathleen Freeman picking up a payday. Anyway, there's more drama here than in most episodes. Still, the acting's good, while the plot's engaging.
