Magazine editor Ariel Wolfe (Amanda Righetti), sister of Sara Wolfe, one of the two survivors of Stephen Price's overnight party in the House on Haunted Hill eight years earlier, is forced to return to the Hill House when she and her boyfriend Paul (Tom Riley) are kidnapped by a group of treasure hunters looking for the lost Baphomet idol, supposedly hidden somewhere in the basement. When they get there, however, they find that Professor Richard Hammer (Steven Pacey) and his two graduate students, Michelle (Cerina Vincent) and Kyle (Andrew Lee Potts) are also looking for the idol. The House, however, has its own ideas.
Return to House on Haunted Hill is a sequel to House on Haunted Hill (1999) (1999). The screenplay was written by William Massa.
Yes. At the beginning of the movie, Sara Wolfe commits suicide and returns as a ghost in a short scene. She is played by Stilyana Mitkova, a different actress from the first film. Dr Richard Vannacutt (Jeffrey Combs) is also back, played by the same actor as the first film.
In House on Haunted Hill, the House was portrayed as a remodeled mental institution where Vannacutt and his staff performed unthinkable experiments on the patients. In Return to House on Haunted Hill, Vannacutt is portrayed as a "brilliant physician and noted humanitarian" who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in the 1920s. His misdoings are blamed on the evil Baphomet idol, which has somehow become hidden in the house for over 50 years.
Baphomet is a pagan idol that the Templars were accused of using in their mysterious rites. The name is said to be a corruption of "Mahomet", the Latinization of "Muhammad," although other origins have been postulated. Baphomet has been connected with Satanism, primarily due to the adoption of its symbol by the Church of Satan.
Ariel wrestles Dr Hammer for the idol, him wanting to keep it and she wanting to toss it through the sewer grating. Ariel grabs the idol but Dr Vannacutt suddenly appears and kills Hammer by bashing the back of his skull against a stone wall. Meanwhile, Ariel is able to drop the idol through the grating, where it is swept away into the open waters. The ghosts begin disappearing, the locked down doors and windows slide open, and Ariel is reunited with Paul. After a bit of smooching, Paul and Ariel leave the house. In the final scene, they turn back to face it. Ariel says, "Baphomet's evil has been trapped in that house for over 50 years. We set it free." Paul replies, "You're saying the house wanted us to succeed?" But neither of them can answer the question.
Yes. Following the credits is a scene where a m an and woman are running along a sandy beach. They stop to share a kiss, and the girl feels something in the sand. She digs up the Baphomet idol, and they wonder whether it might be worth something.
Return to House on Haunted Hill is the direct-to-video sequel of the 1999 House on Haunted Hill (1999) and has been released on DVD in two different versions. In the Unrated edition one can see several additional gory scenes and the Unrated editions provides more nudity and raunchy shots.
