One of the best comedy teams on tv in the 60s was Mr. Drysdale and Miss Jane Hathaway. The banter between those two was priceless. This time around it involves a baby hippo, connected to Mr. Drysdale, part of one of his money making schemes. You really feel sorry for Miss Jane as she has no choice but to listen to his outrageous ideas and aimless ramblings. Granny thinks the hippo is a giant pig ---ready to be cooked, while Ellie May thinks he would make a terrific pet? And so the insanity begins. This episode was aired around the time of the popularity of Arnold the pig on GREEN ACRES, so why not? For animal lovers too, a host of animals trotted out on the show through the years, though some in outrageous costume, such as a gorilla! Beverly Hillbillies was one of the best written and with one superb cast, including the appearance of many fine character actors. The comedy show has been resurrected of late and making the rounds again in reruns, or has it really never disappeared in the first place? A camp classic. SEASON 5 EPISODE 26.
