Sanjay Guptas first book on Short Stories

Sanjay Guptas first book on Short Stories
In 2008, Sanjay Gupta under his banner White Feather Films had made Dus Kahaniyaan which was the first feature length film in India to have ten short films within it. It had stars like Nana Patekar, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Sanjay Dutt, Manoj Bajpayee amongst a host of others. Sanjay Gupta's love for the short story format continues as he has just started writing a series of short stories to be published as a book. "I've finished writing the first three and to be honest am quite enjoying the process. My cinema is essentially dark and nourish, but I am consciously moving away from that space and making my films brighter now. So this is the obvious platform for me to release all the dark stories I still want to tell and to tread fearlessly in telling these stories. It's a luxury you do not have when writing for the screen.

BollySpice’s favourite Sunidhi Chauhan songs

  • Bollyspice
To celebrate acclaimed Bollywood playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan’s UK tour, the team at BollySpice thought it would be cool to put together a special feature which looks at her greatest songs. Sunidhi is unsurprisingly in-demand amongst Bollywood filmmakers, who want her voice to be mimed by some of the hottest actresses in the industry. Her success is evident in the fact that she will be gracing the stage of the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London this Friday as part of her UK tour.

Having first acquired popularity by singing the songs for the film Mast (1999), Sunidhi is considered one of few who can use her voice to give it that provocative touch. She has sung to some of Bollywood’s most iconic tracks and has to some extent contributed towards the popularity of actresses like Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu by lending them her voice in their films.

No producer, no star wanted to touch “Shahid”: Hansal Mehta

No producer, no star wanted to touch “Shahid”: Hansal Mehta
Hansal Mehta’s latest film Shahid, based on the life of slain human rights activist and lawyer Shahid Azmi, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Hansal, who has made films like Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! (2000), Chhal (2002), Dus Kahaniyaan (2007) and Woodstock Villa (2008) before, speaks about his career trajectory, his inspiration to make Shahid, and his tough journey with the film:

What is Shahid about?

Shahid is based on the remarkable journey of human rights lawyer / activist Shahid Azmi. It is a very personal account of an inspiring life tragically cut short. As Cameron Bailey of Tiff describes very beautifully on the Tiff website “it marries elements of political thriller, personal biography and romantic tragedy while being a courtroom drama at its core.”

What inspired you to make a film on the life of Shahid Azmi?

I was out of the country for nearly 3 years between 1990 and 1993. When I returned

Anurag Sudhir Rituparno come together
Vidya Balan just told her 'kahaani' successfully while a few years ago Sanjay Gupta too had a vision to present Dus Kahaniyaan in a feature film format. Though the film didn't do many wonders at the box office, it was acclaimed for it's unique presentation and the fact that it boasted of a huge A list star cast. Circa 2012 and the feat is being taken one level higher up with a film which has, hold your breath, 11 stories. Titled Mumbai Cutting, the film tells 11 stories - each of which has Mumbai as its setting. Interestingly the film is ready for over four years and is now finally gearing up for release on 29th June.

"When announced half a decade back, the film was considered special since it had an interesting set of actors like Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, Soha Ali Khan, Jimmy Sheirgill, Sonali Kulkarni, Neetu Chandra, Sushant Singh, Raima Sen,

Sanjay Guptas wife becomes co-producer for Shootout At Wadala

Sanjay Guptas wife becomes co-producer for Shootout At Wadala
The credit titles of Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Wadala would have Sanjay Gupta's wife Anu Gupta's name as co-producer along with Ekta Kapoor. Says Gupta enthusiastically, "Yes, for the first time my wife Anu's name will appear as the official producer for my film. In the past ten years, I've been to hell and back. I had a near-fatal accident. My wife brought me back from the dead. She gave me a new life, a new beginning and a son, at a time when my so-called friends decided to get seriously malicious. It's a new beginning for me. And if today I'm on the threshold of a fresh beginning it's because of my wife and the son that she has gifted me. So yes, she's the official co-producer of Shootout At Wadala." Gupta has no ambitions of seeing his little son Shivansh grow up to be a filmmaker.

5 years after Zinda, it is John again for Sanjay Gupta

5 years after Zinda, it is John again for Sanjay Gupta
John Abraham is the chosen one by Sanjay Gupta for his comeback film. The actor has been signed up for an action thriller which would be going on floors soon. This would also serve as a reunion for Sanjay Gupta and John Abraham who had last worked together in Zinda (2006). "For quite some time, Sanjay has been deciding on the starcast for his next multi-starrer. In fact this new action thriller that he would be directing is being pitched as the 'baap of all action entertainers' that have ever come out of Bollywood. It's a multi starrer and while there are number of other actors who are in the film, John is a prominent name to be on board", says a source closely attached to the film. After Zinda, Sanjay Gupta went on a sabbatical for five years and only shot for one of the short stories in Dus Kahaniyaan.

Rohit Roy to direct remake of Shaukeen

After donning the director's cap in one of the stories in the film Dus Kahaniyaan and winning critical accolades for the same, actor-director Rohit Roy is all set to direct a new film, supposed to be a remake of Basu Chatterjee's successful film Shaukeen that starred Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt, A.K. Hangal with Mithun Chakraborty and Rati Agnihotri in lead roles. The remaking rights have been acquired from Basu Chatterjee by Bunty Bahl, who will produce the film. Though both the producer and director have decided to retain the story and characters from the film, they have decided to update it to suit the present-day scenario. While Shaukeen was very simplistic in approach, the new version would be a modern version of the same. Though the original version was set in India, the new film would not. "We are looking at Las Vegas, Spain or Malaysia," divulges Roy.

"Sanjay Dutt is a complete rock star!" - Gourov Dasgupta!

Though still pretty new to the world of Hindi film music, Gourov Dasgupta certainly has made his mark, and you have heard his beats on the soundtracks for Dus Kahaniyaan and Hide & Seek. He is a rocker guy at heart, but as a composer he is a man of many faces and that really shows through in his latest Ost Knock Out. I caught up with Gourov and we had a killer time talking tunes, Knock Out, Mr. Sanjay Dutt and more. Check it out!

How did the music of Knock Out come about?

I owe everything to Apoorva Lakhia. My last film, Hide & Seek was also with him. Apu is debuting in Knock Out in a small role. The producer of this film is a friend of his, Mr. Sohail Maklai. So, Apu recommended me - he has always stood by me.

So, when you go to meet a

Suneil Shetty is family to me: Sanjay Gupta

Yet another enmity seems to have been forgiven and forgotten. A couple of years back when there was a rift between Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta, there were clear battle lines that were drawn. Though Suniel Shetty was a part of the team till then, the rift meant that there were clear sides being taken. Result? Sanjay Gupta was left to fend for himself as friendship between Suniel Shetty and Sanjay Dutt continued to thrive. Now that the dust has settled down, doesn't Sanjay Gupta miss Suniel being around?"Really, I have never had anything against him. I have shared great personal and professional relationship with him right from Kaante to Shootout At Lokhandwala to Dus Kahaniyaan. For us as a director and an actor, we have enjoyed a fabulous win-win situation", says Gupta who is looking at a new phase in his professional life now, "However,

"The music of Hide & Seek has been by far my best in Bollywood" - Gourov Dasgupta

Gourov Dasgupta is one of the new breeds in the Hindi film music industry and is a cool combination of both music director and rocker. Not only can the man write a killer tune, he is also probably the one wailing on the guitar! He has only been in the industry a few short years, but you have heard his hits on Dus Kahiniyaan, Aa Dekhen Zara, and on his newest release Hide & Seek. For the edge of you seat thriller, Gourov composed tracks that range from a new take on 'Jingle Bells', to rock power ballad in 'Kaise Jiyu' to a full on rock jam 'Maula' and each one is awesome. I got a hold of Gourov, between recording sessions, for a chat about his music and we had a rockin' (if you will forgive the pun) talk! See for yourself!

How did you get started in the Hindi film Industry?

Tarina Patel Chasing Fame

South African actress Tarina Patel impressed in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Dus Kahaniyaan, in a golden bikini opposite Dino Morea, and in the role of Julie in the instantly forgettable Karzzzz. She will soon be seen in Axel Saxena's Chase and has bagged an international co-production in which she portrays an Anglo-Indian. The film will be shot partly in Italy.

Tarina is now based in India in order to be more in touch with her origins. "I shifted base here because my great grandfather is from India" she says, "But I had to take Hindi lessons to improve my diction before accepting Bollywood offers. People in the entertainment industry in India are easily accessible. You can directly call up a filmmaker and say that you want to work with him."

Everything is going right for Tarina at the moment, having recently returned from her honeymoon, following her marriage to Iqbal Meer Sharma,

Arbaaz Khan: The perfectly 'imperfect' husband! - News

  • GlamSham
Always an iconoclast, Arbaaz Khan, despite being the brother of a highly successful actor like Salman Khan, and son of famous writer, Salim Khan, chose his first role, that of an over possessive husband to Juhi Chawla in Abbas-Mustan's racy thriller, Daraar. And so convincingly and menacingly did he portray the role, the imperfect husband image has latched on to him and stayed with Arbaaz ever since. The recent examples of that were seen in superbly enacted hubby roles in Bhagam Bhag, Fashion and Dus Kahaniyaan....
