Amusing short film with Cillian Murphy stealing the show
Rodrigo_Amaro20 February 2024
Here's a charming short film featuring an early appearance by Cillian Murphy and already showing his great acting skills. It's a small comedy about an anxious father (Eamonn Hunt) whose daughter is about to get married and he needs to make a speech, of which he's too nervous as he tends to stutter. To control his nerves, he does the worst possible thing and something that he never did before: he drinks and get amazingly drunk. Now, it's up to all the guests, family members and the best man (Murphy) to control everything so the event won't get ruined.

I didn't find the picture so funny, it's more of a series of amusing and strange events that succeed one another and some can find some fun on that.

Somehow, I was seeing everything in a more serious manner, definitely siding with the poor bride and feeling a little sorry about the dad as I know that public speaking can be frightening and some folks make use of alcohol to control the nerves but sometimes it can also backfire.

Easy laughs to all the situations revolving this crazed wedding, Hunt was very good in the title role, but it's Cillian who steals the show. There's an intensity about him that you can't stop following him in the story, you always keep waiting for his moments. The surprising ending was just perfect and made the whole experience a pure delight. 8/10.
