It has a few funny moments but it's a mixed bag....
The only copy of this film I have found is on archive.org's website. However, be aware that this Jimmy Aubrey comedy is incomplete. How much is missing, I have no idea but there are not opening or closing credits and it does appear truncated--especially at the start.
"The Mechanic" finds Jimmy working at an auto service station. He obviously has no idea what he's doing and again and again, he messes up. Sometimes he's an idiot--sometimes the problems just happen. A few (such as the glue and the boss) are hilarious. Several, however, are WAY overdone--with lousy timing because the gags go on way too long. Take the water bit in the end when he sprays the family. He continues spraying them for 1-2 minutes--and it's supposed to be an accident?! It looks heavily padded--as did the bit with the greasy rag.
While Aubrey made quite a few films (and a few as a star), I can see why he isn't really remembered today. Not a bad film, but certainly not one to rush to download.
