“The Unseen” follows Bob Longmore (Aden Young), a man who abruptly left his wife Darlene (Camille Sullivan) and daughter Eva (Julia Sarah Stone) and isolated himself in a small Northern town. He works at a saw mill and mostly keeps to himself, avoiding human interaction if at all possible. Bob abandons his family because of his unique condition: He’s slowly going invisible, in an irregular and shocking way. When Darlene reaches out to him, Bob returns home to reconnect with Eva, but as soon as he returns, Eva mysteriously goes missing. This is not a cartoon war. I should get that out of the way first; as this is simply a look at two of the best cartoon characters of all time. That is my opinion anyways and after watching every single episode of The Simpsons and King of the Hill – how could anyone disagree? As two of the best animated shows ever, The Simpsons and King of the Hill will forever be in comparison to shows past, present, and future. I just felt like tossing my two cents out there; and this is in no way a definite biography either, it’s just a fan rant.
People will say that The Simpsons has past its due date and that new shows like Family Guy are the new gems to watch. Well, watching the Simpsons these past years,...

North and South was a TV miniseries that aired on ABC in 1985, 1986, and 1994, based on the trilogy of novels of the same name by John Jakes. The trio of books tell an epic ensemble-cast story set before, during, and immediately after the American Civil War, with the friendship between 2 men, initially best friends, who later find themselves on opposite sides of the war, at the center of it all. The miniseries starred Patrick Swayze and James Read as the 2 men - best friends while at West Point; their families and themselves enemies, during the war, later. One family, Southern, owned slaves; the other, from a Northern town, excel in manufacturing and industry; Their...

Acorn Media are providing some much needed relief to those of us who are still upset about the BBC’s decision to cancel Zen. The Brit-loving DVD distributors are giving a U.S. debut to the Sky crime drama Falcon. Ok, so it’s not set in Rome but Seville is a pretty good setting as it is a fascinating city steeped in history and culture. No, Rufus Sewell isn’t in it but it does feature Kiwi actor Marton Csokas, who I am told is equally popular with the ladies.
As with Zen, the producers of Falcon got their inspiration from a popular series of crime novels. Wisely or not, the producers of both shows decided that all or most of the characters should have decidedly British accents despite the fact that they are in Italy or Spain. That element of the show takes some...

From its audacious profanity infused opening to its hard-hitting finale one can see why Paddy Considine’s directorial debut was one of the talking points at Sundance. Set in the Northern town of Leeds, the film follows the volatile, foul-mouthed day-to-day existence of jobless widower Joseph (Peter Mullen) – a man prone to sudden uncontrollable bursts of violent retaliation and tortured by ghosts of the past. One day after vandalising a post office window he seeks refuge in a charity shop run by kind-hearted Christian-worker Hannah (Olivia Colman – a real revelation in a rare dramatic turn). Feeling his plight the Good Samaritan offers to help Joseph and prays for him. At first Joseph slams her for her god-worshiping ways and apparent idyllic middle-class existence, then later learns that Hannah’s home life is far from rosy. It transpires that Hannah’s husband James (Eddie Marsan - seriously...

Do you remember this Amazing track from 1997? It's "Sunchyme" by Dario G and is the song that heavily samples The Dream Academy's also-quite-excellent "Life in a Northern Town". Except it takes that track and turns it into one of the most summery, life affirming and happy songs of the era. The video clip is really quite fascinating, too. The final minute of this song and the video are more "feel good" and more of a "hymn to life" than anything and everything in Slumdog Millionaire.
