Vaff 2011 – Preview

  • HeyUGuys
Vancouver, Canada – Providing a forum for independent North American Asian filmmakers, the upcoming Vancouver Asian Film Festival (Vaff) will offer audiences a diverse selection of shorts and full features.

Celebrating its 15th year, the festival’s theme for 2011, ‘Love Letters to Vancouver’, ties in with the city of Vancouver’s 125th birthday celebration. The plywood background for the program guide cover may seem familiar because it was inspired after the Canucks riot when everyone wrote their ‘Love Letters’ to the city on the plywood covering broken windows and doors.

With almost 60 films and over 60 diverse Asian filmmakers, actors and special guests scheduled to attend this year’s festival, this is the largest Vancouver Asian Film festival to date.

Here are a few Vaff 2011 films we are looking forward to:

More actresses in talks for The Dark Knight Rises?

The news that Tom Hardy signed on for an unspecified role in The Dark Knight Rises seemed to have come out of nowhere (here), but Nolan seems to be holding at a wider search for the actresses. Just yesterday, a shortlist of actresses was revealed that were in talks for Nolan’s next Batman film (here), which included some big names, and a couple relatively unknowns. Now, it seems three more names have been added to that list.

Moviehole is hearing that Tanit Phoenix (Lost Boys 3: The Tribe), Piper Perabo (Ashes, The Carriers), and Marion Cotillard (Inception) are being considered for either Bruce Wayne’s love interest or the villain. It’s surprising to hear that Cotillard is considered for a role as she’s already been rumored to have turned down a role twice (here and here). Phoenix could definitely pull off may be Catwoman or Talia al Ghul,

Covert Affairs’ Chris Gorham Q & A

I hope you’re still having fun with Covert Affairs, and I have another Q & A for you. This time, with Chris Gorham who plays Auggie.

I was a bit hesitant about this show after the pilot, largely because I wasn’t sure it was exactly clear which directions it was going to aim in a variety of ways. I’m pretty happy with it so far, and stay tuned, because in the next day or two I will have a preview review of the next episode, which focuses a good deal on Auggie.

Chris talked a lot about his character, past shows, and even Twitter. I hope you enjoy. Afterward, check out the preview for that episode, along with a couple of images.

By the way, very recently heard reports that the show has been renewed.

What can you tell us about Auggie and what it’s like bringing him to life?
