Storyline

The first of three in the episodic series that potentially make up what could be called Half-Life 3, Half-Life 2: Episode One takes place directly after the events of Half-Life 2. You play, again, as the famous Gordon Freeman, this time running away from the unstable Citadel, which is collapsing from the preceding events in Half-Life 2. With Alyx Vance at your side, you must battle through the remaining enemies left in City 17 in an attempt to escape almost certain peril. Written by MB

Trivia

Originally Gordon was intended not to receive any firearm other than the gravity gun until he and Alyx get deep into City 17. This was designed for the player to rely more on Alyx. However the play testers found that not giving Gordon a gun for so long was just not fun so he was given a weapon after leaving the Citadel. See more »

Goofs

In level "Low Life" the player is trying to reach the surface via an underground parking lot. At level P5 antlions attack from underground burrows. However level P5 is not the ground floor. Under P5 is P6. See more »

User Reviews

Amazing Quality VS Short Gameplay

I think this game has the same quality like "Half-Life 2": It has the same fantastic characters, the intense atmosphere, the amazing sound effects etc. What I even like better is the fact, that Alyx Vance is beside you. She adds stronger feelings in the proper situations (for example panic).

The largest disappointment is clearly the short gameplay with only five chapters, but you have to expect this when it's called an "episode". I'm a Half-Life fan, but also a hobby reviewer, so I can't just rate "Episode One" as high as the original Half-Life games...
