The Counterfeiters Director Enters Hell With Trailer For New Serial Killer Thriller

Austria's Stefan Ruzowitzky took home a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for his 2007 effort The Counterfeiters and in a career already notable for taking some dark turns Ruzowitzky appears to be taking his darkest yet with the simply titled Hell (Die Hölle). A dark and brutal crime thriller, Hell follows Özge - a young Turkish woman driving taxi in Vienna who witnesses a murder that may very well be the latest attack by a blossoming serial killer. With the killer knowing he's been seen Özge herself becomes a target, making a bad situation much, much worse. A first teaser has just arrived in the lead up to the film's Austrian release and it is already abundantly clear that Ruzowitzky is not holding anything back...

Terrence Malick lines up WWII feature 'Radegund'

Terrence Malick is lining up WWII drama Radegund (aka Jägerstätter), about the life of Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian conscientious objector during World War II who was executed by the Nazis in 1943 aged 36.

In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI declared Jägerstätter a martyr and he was beatified by the Catholic Church.

Set to play Jägerstätter is August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds, The Counterfeiters), while Valerie Pachner (Jack) is also due to join.

The project was announced by the German funding body the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, which is backing it with €400,000.

The drama is reportedly set to shoot at Studio Babelsberg in Potsdam, Germany, this summer and marks Malick’s return to the WWII era following acclaimed 1998 title The Thin Red Line.

The title Radegund refers to the Thuringian princess and Frankish queen from the 6th century who found protection under the Church after fleeing her marriage when her husband had her »

Reports have emerged that Knight of Cups director Terrence Malick has set up his next project: a study of an Austrian second world war conscientious objector featuring the German actor August Diehl, best known for Inglourious Basterds and The Counterfeiters.

With Knight of Cups arriving on Blu-ray this week, his Austin-set drama Weightless finally completed, and his long-gestating Voyage of Time set for an IMAX release this October, director Terrence Malick seems to be taking no breaks as he’s already looking towards his next project. Today brings news of what it’ll be, and that it’ll find him heading to Europe.

He’ll next be directing Radegund, which will depict the life of Austria’s Franz Jägerstätter, a conscientious objector during World War II who was put to death at the age of 36 for undermining military actions. In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI declared Jägerstätter a martyr, and he was beatified in a ceremony. German sales powerhouse Beta Cinema has revealed details of its new Cannes titles, among them the latest features from Oscar winner Stefan Ruzowitzky, Oscer nominee Agnieszka Holland, Un Certain Regard-winner Andreas Dresen and Golden Bear-winner Calin Peter Netzer

Beta’s auteur-driven slate is headed by hard-boiled genre film Hell (working title, pictured), from Ruzowitzky, who won his Oscar for The Counterfeiters. Hell is a taut thriller about a young woman witnessing a brutal murder by a fanatic Islamist serial killer.

Shot by DoP Benedict Neuenfels (The Counterfeiters, AnonymaA Woman In Berlin) and starring Violetta Schurawkow and Tobias Moretti, Hell is produced by genre experts Allegro Film and Amazing Film Company and is currently in post-production. First footage will be revealed at the Beta Cinema Cannes office.

Berlin: Stefan Ruzowitzky to Direct ‘Imilla — The Girl Who Avenged Che Guevara’

Oscar-winning helmer Stefan Ruzowitzky (“The Counterfeiters”) is set to direct Zieger Film’s “Imilla — The Girl Who Avenged Che Guevara.”

The pic tells the true story of Monika Ertl, a German woman who joined Che Guevara’s guerrilla movement and ultimately assassinated the rebel leader’s killer.

Linda Ferri, who penned Nanni Moretti’s Palme d’Or winner “The Son’s Room,” is writing the script, based on German writer Juergen Schreiber’s book “Sie Starb Wie Che Guevara.”

The daughter of a German mountaineer and cinematographer, Ertl emigrated with her family to Bolivia as a teenager in 1953. Eventually growing angry at her father’s Nazi past and the great injustice she witnesses around her, she joined the National Liberation Army and fell in love with Inti Peredo, who became the leader of the militant organization that formed following Guevara’s death.
