Did You Know?

While filming the scene where The Doctor attempts to enter the booby-trapped TARDIS, a small explosive charge went off prematurely and Sylvester McCoy was struck by some debris. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured although the experience did leave him with a bad headache. See more »

This episode takes place during 1959. The Dr. is holding a Squier Stratocaster. Fender did not own the Squier company until the mid 60s, and the Fender Squier series Stratocasters were not started until the early 80s. See more »

Not one of the show's best.

Doctor Who: Delta and the Bannermen: Part 3 starts as Gavrok (Don Henderson) & his Bennermen chase the Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) & the Chimeron Queen Delta (Belinda Mayne) all over South Wales, well down one road anyway. Eventually everyone ends back up at the Shangri-La holiday camp for a final showdown to the death, but whose death exactly...

The third & final part of this Doctor Who adventure this was episode 11 from season 24 & originally aired here in the UK during November 1987, directed by Chris Clough I personally don't think this is anything special although while it's pretty bad in places it does have a certain fun element to it. The script by Malcolm Kohll could be described as a cheesy camp mixture of Back to the Future (1985) with it's time travelling 50's setting, Star Wars (1977) with it's intergalactic chase for a Queen across the galaxy with a touch of Hi-De-Hi (1980 - 1988) thrown in there since it's set in holiday camp! I don't know, it's sort of fun once you get used to it but it's not hard to see why Doctor Who was nearing it's end when it was churning out stuff like Delta and the Bannermen on a weekly basis. Harsh but true I'm afraid.

This story hasn't really had many special effects in it, a few spaceship's landing & a bus flying through space! What there has been has looked OK. Sylvester McCoy is coming along nicely in his third story & this also marks the first appearance of his trademark umbrella with the question mark handle. The acting has been alright although was it ever revealed what those two comedy relief American dudes were all about?

Delta and the Bannermen: Part 3 is an OK way to finish a really camp story, while this hasn't been my favourite Who adventure it was sort of fun in a cheesy way.
