Doctor Who: Invasion of the Dinosaurs: Part 5 starts as the Doctor (Jon Pertwee) is ordered to be arrested by General Finch (John Bennett) after being framed by misguided scientist Professor Whitaker (Peter Miles) for creating the dinosaurs which have been popping up all over central London. Meanwhile Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) has escaped from the phony spaceship & knows what's going on, in her attempt to see the Doctor she is captured again. The Doctor himself manages to escape the clutches of UNIT & is positive that whatever is responsible for the dinosaurs is under the streets of London & is determined to put a stop to it...
This Doctor Who adventure was episode 9 from season 11 that aired here in the UK during the early part of 1974, directed by Paddy Russell I'm enjoying Invasion of the Dinosaurs although Part 5 isn't it's finest hour, or rather 25 minutes. The script by Malcolm Hulke spends a large chunk of this episode following the Doctor as he evades capture from UNIT which does drag a bit, the dinosaurs themselves are also becoming less & less prominent as this story progresses & apart from the not very good cliffhanger ending they don't feature at all in Part 5. There's a nice twist though & the story is now clear as it races toward it's final part, it's a story that preaches a moral message about the pollution of Earth & how the human race are responsible for it. While not the best episode in this six parter it's still a necessary watch & provides decent entertainment.
Again I have to mention some really bad special effects especially at the end with it's poor cliffhanger where the Doctor is trapped on a deserted London street between a Brontosaurus & T-Rex which looks absolutely terrible, you can see why the T-Rex has been used sparingly throughout. The acting in Invasion of the Dinosaurs has been pretty good throughout by a decent cast.
Invasion of the Dinosaurs is a good story even if Part 5 isn't the most exciting of the six, still well worth a watch though.
