The very first still from 30 Days of Night: Dark Days just arrived in our inbox just a few weeks ago, and because we are quick like cats here it is for the rest of you guys!
Synopsis
"It’s been a year since the Alaskan town of Barrow’s population was decimated by vampires during its annual month long sunset. Riddled with grief over the death of her husband, bound by nightmares and void of all emotions beyond hate and sorrow, Stella (Sanchez) has spent the past months traveling the world, trying to convince others that vampires exist. Met with skepticism and laughter, Stella is ready to throw in the towel when a group of lost souls (Coiro, Baird and Perrineau) offers an incredible opportunity: the chance to exact revenge upon Lilith (Kirshner), the vampire queen responsible for the assault on her sleepy Alaskan town. With nothing remaining to live for, »

A few hours ago, Wrong Turn 2 filmmaker and G4 staffer Joe Lynch sent out a "tweet" linking to a YouTube video where he and John Landis reveal some major news while attending the Film4 Frightfest in the UK.
Check out the video below (around the 2:20 mark, per Lynch) for the reveal of the Knights Of Badassdom, set to shoot this October.

How's that for a title? Seriously, it only seems right written out in caps. Knights Of Badassdom! We fuckin' love it! Ever since the better than it had any right to be Wrong Turn 2, we've all been waiting for Joe Lynch to get back into the director's chair. Now he's returning with a vengeance.
John Landis of all people spilled the beans about Joe's new project at this past Film4 Frightfest (exclusive coverage and reviews here). A video of the "announcement" actually made its way online, and you can dig it below at around the two-minute mark.
When reached for comment Lynch had this to say, "We're still deep in development and aiming for a fall/winter shoot. But casting has officially commenced, and we're talking now with some of the best FX houses in the world to bring the fantastical elements in the film to life; it's so crazy! »

Some news coming out of this year's Monster-Mania Convention! Heather Buckley called in with a news scoop that's pretty damned tasty. John Landis spoke to Dread about his latest project. One that's filled with all manner of murder and mayhem!
Landis will tackle the true and completely sinister tale of Burke and Hare. Also known as the West Port murders, these crimes were perpetrated in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1827 and 1828. The killings were attributed to Irish immigrants William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses of their seventeen victims to the Edinburgh Medical College for dissection.
Even better, we're also told that Simon Pegg is on board to star! Pretty damned sweet. Look for more on this one soon! Welcome back, John! You've been missed!

DVD Playhouse—May 2009

Paramount Centennial Collection Paramount Studios releases two more classic titles from its library on special edition DVD: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is John Ford’s last masterpiece (although he would go on to direct two more very good films) from 1962: about an Eastern lawyer (James Stewart) who travels west only to find primal brutality in the form of sadistic bandit Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin, great as always) and pragmatic brutality in local rancher Tom Doniphon (John Wayne), each two sides of a coin that represent a way of life slowly dying out as Stewart’s modern brand of civilization tames the West. A perfect film, period. Howard Hawks’ El Dorado is essentially a remake of his earlier classic Rio Bravo, with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and a young James Caan as lawmen joining forces against corrupt cattle barons. Great fun. Two disc sets. »

As the opening crawl of the movie reminds us, we.re constantly watched by surveillance cameras wherever we go these days. Director Adam Rifkin thought it would be interesting to make a fictional movie from that footage and this interesting film is the result. They.re watching you, George Orwell would be so proud. The opening of the film tells us that there.s an estimated 30 million surveillance cameras in the United States and that on any given day the average American is captured 200 times. So is the setup for Adam Rifkin.s film. Its shot entirely on surveillance cameras, the storyline is a pure concoction but the film is shot on the cameras. There is one scene shot »

The U.S. Postal Service doesn't like me, I’m afraid.
This May 5, a film I wrote and directed called “Look” is being released on DVD through Anchor Bay. “Look” is the only film to ever be shot entirely with surveillance cameras and though predominantly a character drama, it shines a spotlight on privacy issues and how the ubiquity of these cameras affect the lives of everyday people.
The film enjoyed a successful theatrical art-house run for much of the first half of 2008, it garnered wonderful reviews, collected a hand full of esteemed film fest... »

You know ... sometimes things happen that are nothing short of a complete and total affirmation that some of the people out there who are in positions of power are steadily sending the notion of rational thought to hell in a handbasket. Case in point: Promotional postcards printed up for journalists to spread awareness of Adam Rifkin's latest thriller Look have been deemed obscene by the United States Post Office and as a result couldn't be sent out. Of course we have them here for you.
The images below, with the exception of the one directly addressing me, had to be mailed in envelopes instead of conventional means. Now let me say right off the bat Look is more drama than it is horror, but this situation was so absolutely ludicrous that we just had to report on it. Look hits DVD on May 5th, 2009. Pre-order the flick below.

Apparently it's just a week for censorship around here. Just a day after the blow-up over Amazon blocking gay content, director Adam Rifkin is struggling with another major institution that thinks his stuff is too hot to handle. He planned to mail postcards to promote the DVD release of his new movie, Look, but apparently the United States Postal Service took one look the sexually suggestive image and stamped "Censor" all over it. As reported by Pop Culture Zoo (which found the story first in The New York Post), the postcard for Look has been labeled "too obscene" for the post office to carry it. The site also included the offensive image, which you can see above-- just a couple caught in the act in a company storage room, with all their genitalia, faces, and pretty much everything hidden. As Rifkin himself says in the video embedded below, showing his »

Director Adam Rifkin has slammed the U.S. postal system after bosses refused to mail promotional postcards for his new movie.
Look, starring 24 actor Rhys Coiro, is set to be released on DVD next month and Rifkin hoped to entice buyers by sending out cards depicting a woman's legs entwined around a man in his underwear.
But his risque idea was met by protest from America's mail system - bosses claimed the postcards were too obscene to send.
And the block has left the movie director fuming.
Rifkin tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "We're all in shock. Not only is it censorship, but with the post office in such financial straits, it's ridiculous they won't mail it." »
