Fun 90s SOV Horror Flick
jakegrogan-752354 October 2020
You know what you're getting into when you put this on. It's a 1995 shot-on-video Z-movie about a cursed dummy, what do you expect? I'm a huge fan of anything involving creepy dolls, so I was inevitably going to watch this eventually. The actors are bad, the camera work is bad, the screenwriting is bad, pretty much everything about the film is bad. But it does have that charming quality that only 90s direct to video horror movies have. Being the type of horror fan I am, I enjoyed this, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to most people.

Appalling

Warning: Spoilers
THE DUMMY is an appalling straight-to-video US horror film of 1995 that was shot on somebody's video camera in and around somebody's house. This is no found footage feature, however; it's a wannabe straight horror about a couple who are menaced by a creepy ventriloquist's doll with murder in mind.

Everything about this film is dreadful, from the ham acting of the amateur cast members to the direction and writing. The quality is appalling too, worse than you'd find on an old YOU'VE BEEN FRAMED compilation of home video accidents circa 1992. The idea of the creepy doll has merit but has been done too many times in cinema to be effective, especially as ineptly as it is staged here. Watch THE BOY if you want something genuine, for example. The gore is very mild and the film isn't even good enough to take the mickey out of.

Amazing bad horror movie.

Warning: Spoilers
To the one critic reviewer. When you first purchased this movie, how did you NOT know what you were getting in to? Sure, this movie is wretched, However it is so bad, it's funny. Me and the person I watched this with can not go a day without saying "Orange juice?" "You know it." or "I've been waiting for you.🎵🎶" We also love the end. That is because the dummy wad an entire skeletal structure. I have one problem with this movie and it's not even with the quality looking as if the 1800's had a video camera in color. It's the nudity scene. You will not forget this movie and it's glory. Amazing movie. Best I've seen.
