Anything Good on Television on Christmas Eve?
Sylviastel11 December 2009
Bud and Kelly manage to get a jukebox as a Christmas present to their parents. Al and Peggy are sitting in the front of the television as the kids try to transport the jukebox until Christmas morning. It's during this time that the D'Arcys are having a Christmas Eve party without inviting the Bundys but don't tell them about it which annoys Al because he likes to go. So Peggy and Al are sitting on the television trying to find something suitable to watch on Christmas Eve. They have choices like the Cheers finale on NBC, It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart, a Hitler Christmas on the A&E channel, Suzanne Pleshette in a female version of "A Christmas Carol" where Al jokes "who plays the female?" Anyway, it's not a great Christmas episode.

Funny, however...

This episode was funny as expected, but when Al was criticizing "I Love Lucy" and made an inappropriate comment about Desi Arnaz; I felt it was offensive. Al Bundy (and the audience for laughing) are A**h***s for that one. As a Latin man, it made me very upset. I do know that this is from a different time, but that was an unnecessary line in the script. I still laughed throughout the entire episode. I especially love the antics that were going on between Bud and Kelly. She is such a stereotype and it's hilarious. When Bud goofs on her, I laugh uncontrollably. They both try to get their dad a nice Christmas gift and they go through a lot of trouble to do so. If it wasn't for the offensive comment, I would've given this episode a 10.

I'm spending Christmas with the Bundys.

"TV at Christmas time reeks," says Al in this seasonal episode, and sadly that even extends to Married With Children. I've not liked any of the festive MWC episodes, and even though this isn't the worst of them, it's still not great.

Al and Peggy spend the whole episode on the couch trying to decide what to watch. Kelly and Bud attempt to move their parent's present -- a jukebox -- upstairs, resulting in some not-very-funny Looney Tunes-style chaos. Next door, the D'Arcys are having a party but haven't invited the Bundys.

Bud's comment "Just lets me eats me spinach first" made me laugh, as did Al remarking "She pecked me" when a drunken Marcy kisses him on the cheek, but the rest is unremarkable stuff. Well, except for the strange moment where Al breaks the fourth wall to tell the viewer that he hates the upcoming commercial.
