He’s starred in some of the biggest blockbusters of the last few years with Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, G.I. Joe: Retaliation as well as in comedies such as Tooth Fairy and Get Smart but now Dwayne Johnson is stepping into unfamiliar territory, drama. Crime drama to be exact. Snitch is a surprising distance from your average Johnson action film and lends itself towards the crime genre with a distinct thriller sense about it.
Whilst Johnson will never be considered a thespian he does convince here as John, father to his estranged son Jason who gets caught in a drugs sting. Through a legal technicality his son is imposed with a hefty jail sentence but if he is able to point the finger at a drugs supplier his prison sentence will be reduced. Jason takes the honourable route and rejects the idea but John takes »

Insects. They're nature's monsters, and speaking personally, I hate them. A single spider bite can kill a human. Someone 8,000 times its size. Me? I don't like those odds, but I do like this latest clip from The Haunting of Helena.
Synopsis

Chicago – Originally called “Fairytale,” “The Haunting of Helena” will be available on VOD tomorrow, June 18, 2013, before a very limited release on June 21, 2013. It’s a generic, mediocre horror flick with a few effective images and some interesting thematic play in the second act that is, sadly, totally underdeveloped. This update of the Tooth Fairy legend takes the familiar and tries to make it terrifying but horrendous dialogue (someone actually says without a hint of irony, “You must leave this house before it’s too late”) and weak performances will aggravate even the most forgiving horror fans.

The Purge is a film loosely based around the “what if” concept of crime being legal for a 12 hour period every year; The idea being that everyone is allowed to purge their anger and hatred at the same time, thus allowing the remaining 364 days to go by unspoiled. Rather than choosing to continuously depict scenes of mob mentality however, these are contained in the opening credits and the story itself focuses on the Sandin family, whose night from hell which begins when Charlie, the young son, offers refuge to a homeless man being hunted.
Although the film gives a welcome return to an actor who seems to have been gone from our screens for quite some time, Ethan Hawke as the Sandin’s father James, the appearance of Lena Headey is surprisingly not as agreeable as you might think. This is not to say that she gives a bad performance, »

The first three films in the Fast & Furious franchise had almost nothing to do with each other. Cars were driven quickly, usually by radically different groups of people. In a weird twist, the next three Fast movies suddenly became rigidly focused on continuity, uniting the disparate Fast casts into a big old-fashioned Super Adventure Squad. At the same time, the franchise also added in Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. The Rock), who brought his own action-star flavor to the series. Well, the conclusion of Fast & Furious 6 — Spoiler Alert, natch — features the franchise’s neatest continuity trick yet, while also introducing »

The family comedy with a moral message has been a staple of Hollywood for eons. They have also been a go-to for filmmakers looking to fill cinemas with a family audience, because we all know that the wider the demographic the more box-office right? Wrong. Some of Hollywood’s most recent family comedies have under-performed both critically and commercially. Remember Little Fockers? I do (although I wish I didn’t). That film was enough to put you off watching these types of comedies for life. That being said, the trailer for Parental Guidance actually had me in stitches – not enough to make me want to see the film in the cinema admittedly, but now it’s hitting DVD and Blu-ray I decided it was time to »

Christian Bisceglia and Ascanio Malgarini's Italian tooth fairy chiller 'The Haunting of Helena' (Aka 'Fairytale') has scored a Us release. The flick that has gained its new 'haunting' title, which in all honesty seems way too familiar, is set to be unleashed on VOD on 18 June and then landing in select Us theatres on 21 June. Christian Bisceglia co-directs from a script he penned telling a twisted tale of the legendary Tooth Fairy and we've been promised that there is no sign of Dwayne Johnson parading around in tights anywhere. Harriet MacMasters-Green, Sabrina Jolie Perez, Jarreth J. Merz, Matt Patresi, Paolo Paoloni, Giuliano Montaldo and Susanna Cornacchia all star. Check out the full plot rundown plus artwork below. »

Modern Family Season 4, Episode 21: “Career Day”
Written by Paul Corrigan & Brad Walsh
Directed by Jim Hensz
Airs on Wednesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
It pains me to say it, but Modern Family has become one of those hit and miss sitcoms. Up until now the show was consistently good, but like NBC’s Community, Modern Family is currently in its fourth season and for every great episode there seems to be a boring one. After a two week break, the return episode, “Career Day”, is a dud.
“Career Day” gets its title from the beginning part of the episode but what it really focuses on is the lengths adults will go to to impress their children. To be honest though, I haven’t seen a good Career Day driven episode since That 70′s Show‘s “Career Day” (Season 1, Episode 18) or The Simpsons’ “I am Furious (Yellow)” (Season 13, Episode »
