- When Chris (Neil Stuke) is thrown from the balcony of a high-rise block of flats during a drunken house party, suspicion falls on his flatmate Dean (Joseph Mawle), who is profoundly deaf. Dean lives in the flat with Neil, his abused girlfriend Jak (Joanna Dunbar) who is partially deaf, and Connor (Michael Colgan). The police (Brendan Coyle) use Penny (Susan Lynch) as a sign-language interpreter during interrogation of the two of the three witnesses Dean, Jak and Connor, and end up falsely charging Dean with the crime. As a result of selective questioning and false assumption that sex was motivation, Dean is charged and imprisoned briefly. Meanwhile, Penny and Dean begin a passionate relationship, though Penny is still unsure whether to completely trust Dean. What follows is a roller-coaster ride following Dean and Penny's journey to get to the truth, not at all helped by Dean's disability and the abusive treatment he receives in jail and at his job. What happened that night in that flat?
