Not a great movie, but what an enthusiastic filmmaker!
mferica8 January 2007
In contradiction to what coffee-junk wrote, as of last weekend (januari 6th) Horizonica can be viewed in a cinema in Eindhoven (Plaza Futura).

I saw Horizonica there last Saturday. I'm not a horror-fan or expert on the genre, but the best things about this movie are the big-breasted girls, the bloody scenes and the cameos by some famous dutch people and Lloyd Kaufman. The plot is incomprehensible, the acting terrible and the film itself is way too long. But I enjoyed it anyway. The enthusiasm of filmmaker Roman Etman is amazing. Listening to him talk (he was there Saturday to introduce the movie) makes you want to like the movie no matter what. Just for his sake, this movie is worth watching!

Dawn Of The Dead meets Shawn Of The Dead

Okeey. We had Doodeind and Sl8n8. They both weren't great movies. But they were the first Dutch horrors in like 18 years or something, so it was an "okeey" start.

First of all. Horizonica is going straight to DVD. That doesn't mean that this movie isn't good! This movie is really okeey for a Dutch production. The special effects really suck and the story is one big rip-off! The zombies look okeey but not to scary.

This movie is about a few students who get dropped in a forrest and this virus breaks free. Zombies, stupid blonde girls, deep dark forrest, lots of gore, lots of guns, lots of fun! This movies is so stupid that it's funny. You might say it's Dawn Of The Dead meets Shawn Of The Dead and they both meet Blair Witch Project ft. Hatchet vs. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Yes there are some chainsaws in Horiconica). But hey! It's funny! Great Dutch production!

Volunteers

But you may not forget this film has been made by volunteers only !! Everybody in this film did this just for fun ... I was one of the volunteers when they recorded at our school in Goirle, and it was a very special evening.

Anyway, maybe the story sucks ... maybe the acting sucks, but it's just great to have these kinds of films made with such an enthusiasm. I think it's one of the best amateur/volunteer films made ever in the Netherlands. And that's because people just did their best !

I haven't seen the film yet ... but the DVD's should have been released almost a year ago ... so I wonder when it does come ...
