Way back in August 2014, Dimension Films released the first trailer for Amityville: The Awakening, which at the time, was scheduled to hit theaters on January 2, 2015. Just a month later, the studio yanked the film out of its release date, and we haven't heard anything about it since then. Today, The Weinstein Company has released yet another trailer, which features largely the same footage as the first teaser, with the movie now set for release on April 1. This thriller will be going up against Collide, God's Not Dead 2 and Rings.

Amityville: The Awakening is a revival of the popular franchise and a modern twist on the classic horror film. In the movie, Belle (Bella Thorne) and her family move into a new house, but when strange phenomena begin to occur, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn't telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house. »

Nostalgic First Trailer For Amityville: The Awakening Resurrects Dormant Horror

16 February 2016 2:48 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Pack your bags, folks, Amityville village is calling once more. In what will be the 13th installment in the genre-defining franchise, Dimension Films and Blumhouse Productions are primed to situate the infamous supernatural tale in the modern age with Amityville: The Awakening.

Written and directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac, P2), the feature hues close to tradition by setting up the story of an average family moving into a new home – but this isn’t just any home. Having played host to a series of violent murders in the mid-70s, Bella Thorne’s teenage girl soon begins to realize that there’s something amiss under her family’s new roof, and it all appears to center around her bed-ridden brother (Cameron Monaghan).

Cue supernatural activity and nightmarish apparitions, with the official logline describing The Awakening as so: “Belle and her family move into a new house, but when strange phenomena »

‘Amityville: The Awakening’ Gets an Effective Poster and Less-Than-Effective Trailer

16 February 2016 2:23 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Once set for a release over a year ago, it’s taking quite some time for The Weinstein Company to dump Amityville: The Awakening into theaters. Barring any future delays, the “revival” of the franchise will now arrive on April 1st, and while our hopes for it aren’t very high, Blumhouse has released an inventive new poster for the horror film.

Taking an note from their campaign for the single-screen horror Unfriended — which actually turned out to be great — the first effective poster utilizes the instantly recognizable Instagram frame as it teases the infamously villainous house. The Weinstein Company have also released the trailer, which is just the same one they let out of the gate early a few years back.

Directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac) and starring Jennifer Jason LeighBella Thorne, Cameron MonaghanThomas Mann, and Kurtwood Smith, check out the trailer and poster below.
