This episode provides a glimpse into what makes the Stern show so
brilliant and addictive to its fans.
From what begins as yet another screwed-up porn star interview -- amusing and watchable in its own right, but hardly unique -- it unexpectedly turns into sheer comedy genius when the porn star (a royal dummy named Crystal Clear) gets offended by an innocuous devil dog comment by Artie and then, inexplicably, mistakes Artie for her porn director friend Rob as he phones in from Gary's office.
The interplay between the show's cast, improvising as they go along with Crystal's goofiness, reveals just how such inspired moments of brilliance can occur at any time, without any warning. It takes a group of genuinely talented and clever people to recognize what's happening and go with it, seemingly without thinking, running on pure instinct to make the "unmakeable" happen like it does here.
Stern's show is famous for its outrageous scripted bits, the preplanned madness and hilarity that comes from the games played and contests held, but this porn star interview proves that just as much fun -- if not more fun -- can come spontaneously, with Stern and his gang proving once more that they're the ones -- the only ones! -- who can turn such spontaneity and improvisation into an hour of comedic gold.
