World of Warcraft Movie Still on the Horizon?

15 October 2008 5:06 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Blizzard's annual BlizzCon just wrapped up down in Anaheim and like last year, we've got another new quote to hold us over until next year. Blizzard president Mike Morhaime told Moviehole that "there are still plans for a World of Warcraft movie." And what are they? "The script is being written but if they say anything more than that they will be shot." That's one of the shortest updates we've ever heard, but it sounds like a World of Warcraft movie is still in the works, even if we won't see it until the year 2015. With the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack due out soon, World of Warcraft is still as popular as ever. Last year, big-time producer Thomas Tull was the one who spoke out about the movie. "We are starting those conversations. We're going to be looking for someone of Zak Snyder (300) or Chris Nolan »

World Of Warcraft Movie Not Dead

14 October 2008 10:31 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

I still think it's insane to try and make a movie out of a game with no actual plot structure, but the rumors of World of Warcraft's impending transition to the world of feature film refuse to die. This time, they're being spread by Mike Morhaime, president of World of Warcraft game maker Blizzard. Moviehole caught up with Morhaime at this year's Blizzcon, and put him to the question. Morhaime tells them that there are still plans to make a World of Warcraft film. In fact, it seems they're more than just plans since he says, "the script is being written." Unfortunately, he declined to say anything more. Apparently he's signed a bad contract, the terms of which require him to be shot should he reveal specific details. Get that sucker reviewed by a lawyer next time Morhaime! So World of Warcraft: The Movie, is still out there somewhere. »

Shack News is reporting that Blizzard and Legendary Pictures' adaptation of Warcraft won't be ready for next year, as had been previously announced.

"I don't know about the 2009 date," says Blizzard president Mike Morhaime about the film's progress, "but it is still something we are very excited about."

"We do have a draft of a script, [but] it isn't final," he continues. "I think we still need to do a lot of work."

At BlizzCon 2007, Blizzard's VP of Creative Development Chris Metzen and Thomas Tull, head of Legendary Pictures, provided insight into the progress of a Warcraft movie. They released the following tidbits of information:

- The film is set for 2009

- They have a $100 million budget

- It will be a mix of live action and computer animation

- No directors or actors are attached

- The story focuses on major events from a year before World of Warcraft and »
