This short animated film shows a young girl playing catch by herself.
When her ball rolls away, she follows it and sees a billboard with a
very busty model. Not wanting to feel left out, the child pretends she,
too, is busty and pretty.
My assumption is that CATCH was a student film. As such, it's very good though it lacks the polish of a studio offering. The animation, while acceptable, is very crude. The story idea of a little girl who first realizes the media's messages aimed at women is a great, though with a three minute film, there was so much more that could have been said with a larger budget and a longer running time--especially since movies rarely address this. Sadly, probably the best discussion of the marketing towards kids was on a recent episode of "South Park"! My fantasy is that the folks that made this nice short get more money so they can make this film prettier, longer and more fully address media messages to girls. As it is, it's worth seeing but that's about all.
