Hollywoodnews.com: A lot is being made this awards season of George Clooney’s versatility in front of and behind the camera, as the “Ides of March” director finds himself in the Oscar race for his performance as a bewildered father in Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants.”
And it’s true that Clooney is enjoying a productive 2011. But Kenneth Branagh has performed a similar feat this year. Click here to read interview with Kenneth
Consider this. Earlier this year, Branagh kicked off the Summer 2011 season with his Shakespeare-by-way-of-Marvel-comics blockbuster, “Thor.” The smash hit earned a whopping $449 million at the worldwide box office, establishing Chris Hemsworth as a bankable star while also setting the stage for “Captain America” and, later, Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers.” It was a coup for Branagh, but he wasn’t finished yet.
The film features the characters of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and lead villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston). However, the industry has long expected that there would be a second villain in the film.

This week, Neca released the product description for its 2012 HeroClix lineup based on The Avengers movie. And, apparently, Loki isn’t the only villain getting a toy made for the movie. The Red Skull reared his vile head on the Neca release. The character, played by Hugo Weaving, appeared in 2011′s Captain America: The First Avenger (aka The Avengers prequel).
The release stated the following: “Charging »

Kenneth Branagh is looking for more time to do nothing. Having recently completed his role as Laurence Olivier in “My Week With Marilyn,” Branagh says he was blessed with time to ponder his character. That didn’t include tweeting or facebooking, (and the actor has no plans to begin social networking.)
In fact, he’s searching for more time to unplug, which may or may not include long contemplative walks. Speakeasy caught up with Branagh just before »

The time has come to close on one of the biggest years in comic books we have seen for a while. Companies saw massive shake-ups to connect with new audiences, while some sadly didn’t survive the year. Countless news stories hit our TV screens and computer monitors that would affect every comic book reader out there in one-way or another. This is the top ten comic book news stories of 2011.
10) Draw The Line At $2.99
This may seem like a meaningless point now that the New 52 is in full swing but in January of this year comic readers were in glee when DC announced their new “Draw The Line at $2.99” campaign, one that would return all of their monthly books to a $2.99 price point (while moving from 22 pages to 20, per issue to balance production costs).
In the past few years the comic industry has seen a strong escalation in ongoing »

We know that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will be the main villain in "The Avengers," and all throughout the production we've been hearing that he may be joined by other villains, at the time thought to be the Skrulls. Spoilers Ahead: Now, Neca has unveiled a description of their 2012 "The Avengers" toy line, revealing that Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) will team with Loki in the new movie. The description states: "Charging straight out of theaters and onto your tabletop, Marvel's the Avengers Movie HeroClix set features heroes like Captain America and Thor as they battle the villainy of the Red Skull and Loki!" 2011 has, despite claims to the contrary, been – for me at least – a pretty decent year for movies. Between comic book flicks, sci-fi, teen comedies and some of the best big-screen horror, I’ve actually seen more films in the cinema this year than any before it… And shockingly not everything was in 3D!
Surprisingly choosing my final top ten wasn’t as difficult as I originally imagined, although I have a feeling that not everyone will agree with anything on this list:
A low-budget, straight to DVD zombie movie as my number one..? Hell Yes! Screened at August’s London Film4 Frightfest, Deadheads turned out to be a surprising mix of John Hughes teen comedy and traditional zombie film. And with shades of Night of the Creeps it was pretty much guaranteed to be on my top ten list come the end of the year. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
Yet another horror comedy, »
New 'The Avengers' Russian movie poster features a horned out crazy, evil Loki. Here's a brand, new, movie poster for the upcoming super hero flick "The Avengers" by Marvel Studios. It's the Russian version, and it features Thor's evil brother Loki rockin out the ugly horned helmet so he can go ballistic in the flick. He definitely doesn't make nice with our Avengers heroes as he's seen, throwing Tony Stark aka Ironman out of a window at one point, and causing all kinds of other problems. The movie stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård,and Samuel L. Jackson. In the flick, Samuel L. Jackson's character Nick Fury is director of an organization named Shield, and recruits a couple of very formidable heroes to take out a dangerous enemy, which I'm guessing is Loki, because »

Box office junkies, unite! It’s time to break down the year that was at the movies using the thing that we love most — the numbers!
Blockbuster franchise films reigned supreme at the North American box office in 2011. Of the ten highest grossing movies, the top seven — led by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 with $381 million — are sequels, Rise of the Planet of the Apes (No. 9, $176.7 million) is a prequel, and Thor (No. 8, $181 million) and Captain America: The First Avenger (No. 10, $176.7 million), while not sequels, are part of the larger Avengers franchise which Marvel will roll out next year. »

Fast Five, the well-reviewed latest instalment in the Fast and the Furious series, topped the list with 9.2m downloads, while in second place The Hangover II was pirated 8.8m times. Thor, Kenneth Branagh's take on the Marvel comics character, received 8.3m downloads and the top five was rounded out by Duncan Jones's techno-thriller Source Code (7.9m downloads) and teen-orientated sci-fi flick I Am Number Four with 7.6m downloads.
The results, when cross-referenced with this year's global box-office top 10, seem to confirm that 3D films tend to be those filmgoers prefer to see at the cinema rather than downloading illegally. »

The Iron Man suit might be getting an upgrade: Heels! According to Us Weekly (via the New York Post), Robert Downey Jr. is adding lifts for 'Iron Man 3.' "They're working on a special pair just for him," a source told the celeb magazine, and that the lifts would be concealed in boots. Why in the next Iron Man movie and not 'The Avengers?' At 5'8", the actor certainly isn't the tallest in the 'Avengers' cast. That would be mighty Thor, Chris Hemsworth, at 6'3", as we've seen in shots of the actors on the set. At least Downey appears to be taller than Mark Ruffalo, who is also reportedly 5'8".

Quite a few critics' best-of lists have implied 2011 was a pretty average year for popcorn movies. Throw in the fact that 2012 is set to deliver The Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus and the first part of The Hobbit, and it doesn't augur well for an annual round-up of the past 12 months' top fanboy-friendly films. But while there has been nothing this year to compare with the head-spinning brio of 2010's Inception or the epic, flawed genius of 2009's Watchmen, the overall quality of fantasy, sci-fi and comic book fare has definitely been on the way up.
That's not to say we haven't had our fair share of distinctly non-festive turkeys. Green Lantern was an almighty mess dogged by a ropey script, dodgy CGI, and wooden chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and just about everyone else on screen. »

We all know that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is the main villain of Marvel's The Avengers. But this Joss Whedon directed ensemble is rumored to have a second villain that has, until now, been kept a tightly guarded secret.
Neca's HeroClix is set to release their Marvel's the Avengers line in 2012, and a product description sent to retailers seemingly gives away the identity of the film's top secret villain. If we are to believe this toy description, Captain America: The First Avenger foe Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) will be the one helping Loki to destroy our team of superheroes this summer.
Here is the product description for the HeroClix line of Marvel's the Avengers miniature figurines.

The Russian trailer for Joss Whedon's The Avengers has hit the web with some new footage. Much of the trailer features scenes that viewers have already seen in the official U.S. theatrical teaser, but there a few key shots that were not included. Extra footage of various team members (Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Thor and Hawkeye) strewn throughout the two-minute promo, a conversation Banner has with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and a meeting between Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) are all seen in the new trailer. All of this, of course, plays out
