'Beauty and the Beast' Star Luke Evans on Gaston's New Backstory and Making People Laugh (Q&A)

17 March 2017 6:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Luke Evans first started out on the stage, performing in many of London's West End productions including Rent, Miss Saigon and Avenue Q, but when the actor’s movie career took off after Clash of the Titans in 2010, he left singing behind. Evans' career on the big screen has mostly involved darker roles, starring in Furious 6, 2014’s Dracula Untold and 2016’s The Girl on the Train.

But it was because of his performance in Piaf in London nearly a decade ago that a casting agent thought of Evans for the role of Gaston in Disney’s live-action Beauty »

Directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster, AMC’s The Killing) and starring Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious) in the titular role, Wonder Woman made her big screen debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but this new film will mark her first time the character has headlined a solo feature – though you’d be hard-pressed to top Lynda Carter’s formidable run as the character on TV.

Wonder Woman also stars Chris Pine (Star Trek) as Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, House of Cards), Danny Huston (Clash of the Titans, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Saïd Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead).

Azure Window Seen in ‘Game of Thrones’ Collapses

9 March 2017 7:44 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The Azure Window, a natural rock formation on the island of Gozo in Malta that served as the backdrop to HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” has collapsed in a storm.

Malta Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tweeted the news on Wednesday. “Reports commissioned over the years indicated that this landmark would be hard hit by unavoidable natural corrosion,” he wrote. “That sad day arrived.”

Muscat later tweeted a photo of the site from which visitors used to be able to see the arch. “Heartbreaking,” he wrote.

The arch, developed over the years through water erosion, had gradually widened, especially in recent years. In December 2016, an order prohibited visitors from walking on the formation, at the risk of a fine. The site was a popular tourist destination and location for cliff diving, to the detriment of its structural integrity.

In addition to being featured on the first season of “Game of Thrones,” the »

Get Acquainted With Mr. Nancy In New Pic For Starz’s American Gods Series

6 March 2017 3:05 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Meet Mr. Nancy. He’s the African trickster god and one of the many, many deities lining the roster of American Gods, Starz’s live-action interpretation of Neil Gaiman’s celebrated fantasy tome.

Pitched as a fusion of Clash Of The Titans and The Grifters, the series largely revolves around Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), an ex-con looking to make amends after being released from prison. Taken under the wing of Mr. Wednesday (Game of Thrones and John Wick alum Ian McShane), American Gods then follows our protagonist as he navigates the seemingly never-ending battle between gods old and new.

Mr. Nancy (Aka Anansi) hails from the older end of the spectrum, and is the only deity so far to warrant his own novel spinoff, Anansi Boys. Will the fan-favorite go on to headline a TV spinoff? It’s not off the table, according to actor Orlando Jones, who spoke with »

Logan is here! Logan is here! Logan is here!

Sorry about that, but as you can see I'm pretty excited for the third and Final installment of the Wolverine series. Hugh Jackman returns as the Canadian mutant but this time around, he's not his usual self. The move is based on the comic book Old Man Logan, and our superhero is now living in a post apocalyptic world with Professor X (played by Patrick Stewart). Logan is retired from his X-men days but forced to bring out his claws when a young female mutant shows up unexpectedly who he must protect from the bad guys. This is a must see in IMAX!

But if you're in the mood for a great comedy, »

Titan Comics: The Walking Dead Comic Companion - Very Cool!

16 February 2017 1:46 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

I thought I may be the biggest The Walking Dead fan ever, and then I read this nice little Comic Companion Graphic Novel. What this awesome 200 page book does is basically break down every character, conflict, love interest, and hate mongering up until around the beginning of the Whisperer War.

This may be the hugest complement I have ever given a book, but I would love this on top of my toilet seat for at least a year.

Throughout this book, they tend to outline some of your favorite characters and give great detail on the many situations that define them. The Carl segments were fantastic as they speculate on his future, like many of us do, but the writers perception of just who he will become is slightly different than what you may think. Of course, there are huge Negan, Glenn, Rick, Maggie, Andrea and other segments -- all worthy of a good read. »

Drive-In Dust Offs: The Brides Of Dracula (1960)

4 February 2017 10:20 AM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

It’s Hammer Time again! Every once in a while I like to dip back to that golden age, where the revered monsters of yore were dusted off with loving care for a newly appreciative crowd of teenagers at the Drive-In. Building upon the worldwide success of The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Horror of Dracula (’58), and The Mummy (’59), it was time for another Drac attack. The Brides of Dracula (1960) keeps up the high level horror, as long as you’re okay with a Dracula movie having no Dracula. Looking back on the whole series, Brides stands out (and up) due to this very omission.

Released in the UK in July, with a stateside rollout in September, Brides was another hit for the unstoppable Hammer machine; and why wouldn’t it be? All the staples (by this point, a formula, really) are present: cleavage, gorgeous cinematography, solid performances, and a gloriously elevated Gothic tone. »

Oscars 2017: Are We Experiencing a Comeback For Stop-Motion Animation Filmmaking?

If the nominations for best animated feature this year tell us anything it’s that we might be experiencing a comeback for stop-motion animation. Two of this year’s nominees are stop-motion films: Kubo and the Two Strings (a critically acclaimed letdown at the box office) and My Life as a Zucchini (which just so happens to be a foreign film, too). Let’s look at the relatively recent history of the best animated feature category to see how stop-motion is coming into its own and theorize on why that could be happening.

In addition to Kubo and the Two Strings and My Life as a Zucchini in the best animated feature category, there’s a solid showing by other styles. There are two Disney hits, Zootopia and Moana, that feature computer animation and one Studio Ghibli underdog, »
