Poster and trailer for horror-comedy Eat Locals starring Charlie Cox

7 August 2017 6:16 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Ahead of its UK Premiere at this year’s FrightFest at The Prince Charles Cinema on 26th August, The Movie Partnership has released a poster and trailer for Jason Flemyng’s (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, X-Men: First Class) directorial debut, the horror comedy Eat Locals, which is described as “Assault On Precinct 13 meets Interview With A Vampire“.

In a quiet country farmhouse, Britain’s vampires gather. They come together once every 50 years to discuss territories, disputes, threats and food stocks, and the approval of new members. On this night, a new face will be meeting them for the first time, and – if the vote is unanimous – could be the latest member to join their fanged ranks.

This new face, however – local lad Sebastian Crockett – merely thinks he’s on a promise with sexy cougar Vanessa.

Unluckily for all, Sebastian’s not the only guest who’ll be dropping in tonight. »

Happy 'International Owl Awareness Day'

4 August 2017 2:00 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

by Nathaniel R

Yes, International Owl Awareness Day is a real thing. For our purposes at The Film Experience owl awareness would be how those nocturnal birds are portrayed onscreen. They're hit-and-miss on celluloid and television. For example, we always needed more personality from Hedwig in the Harry Potter series, that damn mechanical owl in Clash of the Titans is an anachronistic disaster, and is it sacrilege to say that 'Owl' in Winnie and the Pooh is the least engaging Hundred Acre Wood denizen?

The following list is dedicated to the Twin Peaks owl(s) and Archimedes in The Sword and the Stone (1963) who didn't quite make it but we love them. Tfe's five favorite screen owls are after the jump »

Chris Gethard: How TV’s Most Unconventional Talk Show Host is Bending the Rules of Space and Time

3 August 2017 12:31 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

On Thursday night, Chris Gethard is going back home.

Sure, home is a set at a Midtown Manhattan studio, made of leftover material from the set of David Letterman’s old show. Some of it’s been repurposed into The Diddy Door, a walkway reserved for Sean Combs.

“It’s oddly emotional for me to walk in and take a deep breath, because I always think about how for four years on public access, I did not have access to the trunk of my own car because it was full of our set,” Gethard said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “We’d have to show up, set it up, every week, knock it down every week, put it back in the trunk. The idea that we have a set now that’s a semi-permanent thing is just so mind blowing. It feels like an odd little victory.”

Lionsgate has picked up Shay Hatten’s action script “Ballerina” and set up the project with “John Wick” franchise producer Basil Iwanyk through his Thunder Road company.

Lionsgate won an auction for “Ballerina,” with Warner Bros. and Universal also expressing interest in the script, which centers on a young woman raised as an assassin who must hunt down the assassins who killed her own family. It’s said to be similar to Luc Besson’s 1990 actioner “La Femme Nikita,” which starred Anne Parillaud as a teen junkie who murders a policeman and becomes a skilled assassin.

Avatar: why no one cares about a sequel to the world's most successful movie

5 June 2017 10:00 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Back in 2009, James Cameron’s 3D epic was a huge hit, vindicating its tech and earning billions. But since, the Star Wars and Marvel/DC franchises launched …

It’s easy to forget the impact that Avatar, James Cameron’s outlandish space fantasy about a paraplegic soldier who travels to another world and falls in love with an alien princess, made in 2009. This is the movie that singlehandedly ushered in the 3D revolution; saw fans scrambling to see it three, four or more times, and which had studios scrambling desperately to shoot their tentpole offerings in stereoscope.

Debate raged in the early 2010s about whether 3D was really worth the extra money, especially for those who claimed it simply gave them a headache. Cheap conversions such as 2010’s Clash of the Titans, featuring battling gods and goddesses who often seemed to have been physically glued to the screen, did not help matters. »

Silver screen slots

25 May 2017 12:01 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

In an ever-increasing desire to create the most exciting and immersive experiences possible slots designers are always on the lookout for new themes and concepts for their machines. In doing this they often take the example of video games developers as a starting point and this, logically, has led on to theming many of their slots around hit movies.

These are specifically designed to appeal to fans of the film in particular or the genre in general and often the film makers regard them as an additional piece of merchandise for the franchise.

So if you’re a movie fan here are some of the very best about and, more importantly, some handy tips about how to maximise your winnings.

One of the key aspects of success on the slots is knowing when to switch machine and the common wisdom is that when you’re on a run without many wins, »

The behind the scenes battles of Pirates Of The Caribbean

24 May 2017 2:24 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Mark Harrison May 25, 2017

The Pirates Of The Caribbean movies have not been easy films to make....

As Michael Bolton once belted out: “This is the tale of Captain Jack Sparrow.” The Pirates Of The Caribbean film was a surprise sleeper hit in 2003, astounding the higher-ups at Disney who had long been sceptical of how a pirate movie, based on a ride at Disneyland, would appeal to audiences.

Off the back of this success, the sequels only got more ambitious and expensive in scale, with their use of practical effects and convoluted character dynamics serving to complicate the adventure format, with mixed results. It shouldn't shock you then, to hear that each of the movies released so far had some serious behind-the-scenes battles to make them shipshape.

The fifth and apparently final instalment, Salazar's Revenge (or Dead Men Tell No Tales), has had some very public battles before it has even been released, »

New IMAX character posters for ‘Wonder Woman’

24 May 2017 3:01 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster, AMC’s The Killing) and starring Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious) in the titular role, Wonder Woman made her big screen debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but this new film will mark her first time the character has headlined a solo feature – though you’d be hard-pressed to top Lynda Carter’s formidable run as the character on TV. However with a script by Allan Heinberg (The Oc, Young Avengers), I have high hopes for this being a monster of a summer hit – and it looks, from the reviews/comments I seen so far, it may well be!

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, »

Spain Rebates Lure Productions From Abroad

19 May 2017 7:00 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“Thanks to the foreign shoot tax credits, especially on the TV side, Spain is a big hot spot now,” says producer Adrian Guerra. That seems almost an understatement. Luring big shoots is a big growth industry in Spain. But every region is its own story. Beyond Madrid, here are some of Spain’s key filming locales:

Canary Islands

With one of the most attractive tax systems in Europe, the Canary Islands have become a top shooting destination. Per industry sources, foreign shoots have spent some €200 million ($218 million) in Spain since 2015. Of them, the largest part has gone to the Canaries.

Last year, 14 feature films rolled there, including Robert Zemeckis’ “Allied,” Rodrigo Cortés production “Down a Dark Hall,” and Sony Pictures-Atresmedia’s “Oro.” Among TV dramas: Netflix’s “Black Mirror” plus BBC’s “Doctor Who” and “Silent Witness.”
