Kevin Feige Talks 10 Years of Marvel Movies

31 December 2009 11:27 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

As the first decade of the new millennium comes to an end, we look back at the era that saw our favorite comic book heroes from the house of Stan Lee making the leap from the page to the silver screen.

To bring us a first-hand perspective of the Marvel movie experience, President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige recounted the hard work and big payoffs that catapulted Marvel (and comic book movies on the whole) to the cinematic power horse it is today.

I’ve taken the liberty of cutting down Feige’s quotes to Marvel News down into some smaller snippets that should help spark fond feelings of comic book movie nostalgia:

Trying to Break the “Marvel Curse”

I started at Marvel proper in August 2000; I had been working as an associate producer on “X-Men” in 1998. We worked on that for almost three years. Back in those days there was the “Marvel Curse. »

Final Hurdle Cleared In Disney Acquisition Of Marvel

31 December 2009 5:38 AM, PST | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

A few signatures is all that's left for The Walt Disney Co. to become the new owners of Marvel Entertainment Inc. Shareholders of Marvel, responsible for such properties as X-Men, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man, approved the deal Wednesday that would allow Disney to purchase the company for $4.3 billion. The mostly cash deal will result in the exchange of $30 and 0.745 shares of Disney stock for every Marvel share. The acquisition will strengthen Disney's hold on some key properties that are not only strong in comic book sales, but have been box office smashes as well. That includes more than 5,000 Marvel characters that could be included in theme parks, books and films. However, it is not expected to affect some of the deals Marvel has with existing studios, including the use »

The "Abomination" May Return in One or More Marvel Movies

31 December 2009 12:55 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Director Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk may not have been the smash hit that its Marvel Studios cousin Iron Man turned out to be, but it still made a hefty profit at the box office. And with both of the Hulk's antagonists — Gen. "Thunderbolt" Ross (played by William Hurt) and Emil "Abomination" Blonsky (Tim Roth) — still alive and well at the end of the movie, the stage is set for a sequel.

Leterrier has gone on the record as saying he would be interested in revisiting the Hulk, whether in a sequel or in The Avengers movie, a team that the Hulk helped create in the Marvel comic books. Also, Edward Norton, who portrayed Bruce Banner, the man who becomes the Hulk, has expressed interest in reprising the role, assuming he has the time in his schedule.

Jeremy Renner Claims “No Truth” In Hawkeye Rumors

30 December 2009 5:51 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The Hurt Locker is one of the best movies of 2009 and its star, Jeremy Renner, has a bright future ahead of him. For us comic book movie fans, we hope that future involves Renner taking on the role of Hawkeye in some of the upcoming films by Marvel Studios.

Last month, the rumor of Renner playing Hawkeye made headlines everywhere following the glowingly positive reception of his performance in The Hurt Locker and an interview with Empire where the actor revealed that he went in to talk to Marvel about Captain America but instead ended up talking the character of Hawkeye. Nothing official came of it (that we know of) but if were to happen, he said that the character would likely appear in Thor and that he’d be honored to be looked at for franchise role such as this.

With this match made in Heaven, many thought it had to be the case. »

Sr Pick [Video]: X-Mas Origins: Santa

27 December 2009 8:49 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Fox Studios has a pile of X-Men film projects in development to expand and extend their financially successful franchise but there’s one we didn’t know about until now. In addition to Wolverine 2, Deadpool and X-Men: First Class, the most anticipated (and the most seasonal) superhero epic coming out is X-Mas Origins: Santa.

Unfortunately, this is only a fan-made mash-up trailer for what could be a hilarious movie. Featuring footage and sound from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Batman Begins, Max Payne, Blade, Punisher: War Zone, The Incredible Hulk and several Tim Allen movies among others, here’s a very creative and funny video for an alternate take on Santa Claus.

Watch and enjoy:

Marky Mark killed Santa’s family?

He tried to end Christmas… But on December 24th… Christmas ended… Him.

Socking It To Santa: Comic Book Christmas Stockings

24 December 2009 9:01 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

The holiday season inspires many wonderful novelty items for decorating one's house, but aside from tree ornaments and wrapping paper, there aren't many outlets for comic book stars to shine.

That's why when it comes to hanging out for the holidays, stockings are an enjoyable way to capitalize on one's super hero movie fandom without getting too tacky.

Here's a rundown of a few appropriate choices for the season, along with a look at the cinematic future of each franchise. (Image courtesy of The Deadpool Bugle and artist Paco Medina.)

Iron Man

Shellhead's heavy-duty armor plating may not seem like a logical choice for a typically plushy decoration, but movie and comic fans alike can't resist the charm of an Iron Man novelty. This summer's "Iron Man 2" will likely have a positive effect on next winter's stocking offerings – if folks can reconcile War Machine with "peace on earth and good will toward super villains. »

Sr Pick [Video]: Avatar Wars: Humans vs. CGI Characters

23 December 2009 3:34 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Said The Joker to James Cameron: “You’ve changed things… Forever. There’s no going back.” Certainly this is true for Avatar, Cameron’s fantasy/adventure epic, which is currently wowing movie audiences all over the world.

The technology Cameron invented to make Avatar a reality has advanced the quality and believability of CGI characters leaps and bounds past the limitations we knew before – but how are flesh-and-blood actors reacting to the new era of CGI?

Well, now we know the answer to that question, thanks to “Avatar Wars” a mashup video created by the guys over at Black 20 Studios.

In this hilarious mock trailer (which you’ll bear witness to in a second), the actors who play the human inhabitants of planet Pandora are facing facts: they are being out-shined by their blue CGI costars, the Na’vi, while human actors in general are being overshadowed by a »
