This is the fourth film to bear the title of "The Hills Have Eyes," preceded by the original 1977 version, The Hills Have Eyes, its 1985 sequel, The Hills Have Eyes Part II, and the 2006 remake The Hills Have Eyes.

Wes Craven, the writer and director of the original 1977 version, wrote the screenplay for the sequel to the 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes along with his son, filmmaker Jonathan Craven.

Michael Bailey Smith who played Papa Hades also played Pluto in The Hills Have Eyes. Pluto is the Roman name for the Greek god of the Underworld, Hades.

Originally Wes Craven had the idea of Brenda, from the first film, enlisting in the National Guard to overcome her fears, only to be sent back to the same desert with the mutants. She was to be the only one who knew where the mutants hideout was located. This idea was cut since the actress was involved with Lost at the time.
