Ten Best: Break-up Revenge Films

30 October 2014 8:58 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Seduced by dreams of making it big, song-writer Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her singer boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) move to New York to pursue their passion for music. However, when Dave rejects her for the fame and fortune of a big solo contract, Gretta finds herself alone and far from home. Seeking comfort in the arms of dear friend Steve (James Corden), Gretta and Steve end up drinking spirits in his apartment before deciding to drunk-dial Dave. With Steve on keyboard and Gretta singing down the phone and playing guitar, her voicemail makes Dave realise that he made a huge mistake in letting her go.

To celebrate Begin Again being released on DVD and Blu-ray from 10th November, we’ve decided to explore other break-up revenge scenes found in movies.

Russell Brand Says He's "Not Interested In Making Money Any More," Which "Probably" Means He'll Give Up Acting

27 October 2014 7:20 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

While in the U.S. Russell Brand is still mostly viewed as an eccentric British import, perhaps best known for playing the blurred out rocker Aldous Snow in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him To The Greek," he's a bonafide star in the UK. The comedian, author, and actor has more recently made headlines for a different kind of work in front of camera. Via YouTube, he's launched "The Trews" (a mashup of True News), wherein Brand pontificates on the issues of the day in his own unique manner. Recently taking to railing against the current economic and political machinations of the Western world, Brand reveals he's ready to give up his day job to pursue his beliefs full time. In a recent talk with The Financial Times, promoting his new book "Revolution," Brand, a millionaire who was chauffeured to the interview, says that dollars and cents don't mean much to him. »

Kristen Bell's glowing! The "Veronica Mars" star showed off her growing baby bump at the premiere of "The Judge" in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The blonde beauty looked gorgeous in her skin-tight black halter gown and side-parted 'do. The expecting star was joined by hubby Dax Shepard at the premiere and the cute couple posed for photos together on the red carpet. This is the second child for the "Parenthood" actor and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" actress -- the pair welcomed their daughter, Lincoln Shepard, in March 2013 and announced that they were expecting again back in June. Bell and Shepard also tied the knot last October, after waiting to say "I do" until the Defense of Marriage Act (Doma) was overturned. Exclusive Portrait: Jason Segel Releases New Novel ‘Nightmares’

1 October 2014 9:27 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Jason Segel is one of the most genuine people in show business, and he also makes very funny movies and TV shows. He was in Chicagoland recently, making an appearance on behalf of his first novel, “Nightmares.” He greeted admirers and signed the book at the historic Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove, Ill.

After making his film debut in 1998 in “Can’t Hardly Wait,” Jason Segel got his first hit with “Freaks and Geeks,” the legendary one season series in 1999 that combined an amazing cast (James Franco, Seth Rogen) with memorable episodes. Segel has since done two other multi-season series, including “Undeclared” and “How I Met Your Mother.” At the same time, he was no slouch at the film box office, with a long list of hits starting with “Knocked Up,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “I Love You, Man.” He recently rebooted a major franchise with “The Muppets.” and scored with “The Five-Year Engagement. »

Won't You Be My "Neighbors"?

1 October 2014 7:42 AM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

It has been awhile since I’ve seen a good movie come rolling off the Judd Apatow and Friends assembly line. I’m not entirely sure if that is because I have not seen any of them in awhile (never bothered with This is 40) or if they have all just been rather awful (was not a fan of Funny People); I imagine it is likely a combination of the two. It’s definitely not my maturity level that is to blame; I can still watch Superbad, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Pineapple Express over and over and snort with laughter at crass jokes I have heard a million times before. But lately, any new films featuring Seth Rogen’s gravelly tones, billowing clouds of marijuana smoke and obvious Jewish jokes have just not been at the top of my to-watch list. However, Neighbors pleasantly surprised my low expectations, »

Director’s Notebook: How 'Rear Window' and 'Ocean's Eleven' Inspired the Best Scene in ‘Neighbors’

24 September 2014 6:42 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

In this monthly column we spotlight new Blu-ray/DVD releases by interviewing directors about the scenes that stood out most for them while making their movies. This month, we talk to Nicholas Stoller about the Seth Rogen/Zac Efron comedy Neighbors (on sale September 23). Known best for doing comedies that explore relationships, Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, The Five-Year Engagement) continues that trend with Neighbors, but this time he also highlights what it means to get old and suddenly be thrust with responsibilities. In the movie Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne have a newborn baby but struggle to push away temptation to party like they did in the prebaby days. Things don’t get any better when a fraternity suddenly shows up next door...

Neighbors Deleted Scene Spells Trouble for Zac Efron’s Original Frat House

10 September 2014 9:52 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Universal Pictures has released the alternate opening scene of Neighbors online.  I loved director Nicholas Stoller’s (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Five-Year Engagement) new film when I saw it in theaters, but couldn’t help but think there were a ton of party images in the trailer that were absent from the film.  Now I know which scene many of them came from, this deleted opening scene that introduces us to the frat members and the house they burned down (necessitating their move to a new neighborhood).  This is actually only the first half of the deleted scene (which I've seen via iTunes extras), so it doesn't get into the explosive stuff yet.  But it’s still hilarious.  I actually think the whole movie is pretty great except for a few moments in the third act when they try to include unnecessary characters in the action. '23 Jump Street' Is Happening; Original Directors Will Produce

9 September 2014 3:25 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Sony Pictures is moving forward with 23 Jump Street, a follow-up to this summer's 22 Jump Street, with Rodney Rothman coming aboard to write the screenplay. Be warned, there will be a few spoilers for those who haven't seen 22 Jump Street below, so read on at your own risk.

21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are overseeing the writing process as producers, alongside Neal H. Moritz and producers/stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, but they have not officially committed to directing the follow-up. Insiders claim the job is theirs if they want it.

At the end of 22 Jump Street, Ice Cube's Captain Dickson teased a possible sequel story with the line, "You two sons of bitches are going to medical school." The end credits offered a number of fake ideas for possible sequels, including culinary school, firefighter school, dance school and even a semester at sea. »

Watch: First Behind-The-Scenes Clip From Ondi Timoner's Russell Brand Documentary

8 September 2014 12:35 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

American audiences know comedy superstar Russell Brand best from his roles as the drunk, self-appointed spiritualist, semi-airheaded Brit in box-office successes like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Get Him to The Greek”, as well as his theatrical failures like the wholly unnecessary remake of “Arthur”. What they might not know is how active Brand is in the world of politics. His YouTube channel, which has around 500.000 subscribers, is full of videos where he uses his unique wit and energy to take down Fox News and various right-wing entities. Director Ondi Timoner’s ("Dig!," "We Live In Public") feature documentary about Brand, simply titled “Brand: The Film,” seems to cover the many facets of his eccentric personality, including his political leanings. In the first behind-the-scenes clip from the film, Brand and his friends, including OasisNoel Gallagher, talk about his aspirations to literally change the world via fame. DVD Review – Bad Neighbours (2014)

Bad Neighbours, 2014.

Directed by Nicholas Stoller.

Starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Dave Franco and Lisa Kudrow.

Synopsis:

A couple with a newborn baby face unexpected difficulties after they are forced to live next to a fraternity house.

Bad Neighbours is the latest film to star comedian Seth Rogen. Rogen tends to come out with two or three comedies a year, and for the most part the majority of them I have rather enjoyed. This time around he teams up with Zac Efron as they go head to head trying to one up each other throughout the film.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne play Mac and Kelly, a married couple with a new baby girl who have just moved into a great new house. Everything is fine until they have some unwelcome new neighbors move in next door. A college fraternity lead by Teddy (Zac Efron) sets up camp »

Watch Tom Hanks's Forrest Gump audition and more pre-fame A-listers

Forrest Gump first arrived in cinemas two decades ago, cementing Tom Hanks as an A-list movie star, winning a host of Oscars and spawning iconic quotes such as: "Life is like a box of chocolates..." You never know what you're going to get when perusing YouTube, and today's discovery just happens to be Hanks's original filmed audition for Robert Zemeckis.

We get to see Hanks alongside co-stars Robin Wright and Haley Joel Osment, but curiously missing is the Southern drawl we've come to love from the character. In the audition he's more Hanksy than Gumpy, but the character's naive charm is still evident.
