Despite the Russo family mixed ethnicities of Mexican and Italian, Selena Gomez (Alex) in real life is the only actor to have both ethnicities whereas Jake T. Austin (Max) is Puerto Rican, Polish and Argentine, David Henrie (Justin) and David DeLuise (Jerry) are Italian while Maria Canals-Barrera (Theresa) is Cuban.
Some of the spells are created by using the names of the producers. (E.g. Murrieta Animata is Peter Murrieta, Executive Producer.)
As of 2012, Disney's most successful and longest-running TV Series (surpassing That's So Raven (2003)) with 106 episodes over four seasons.
The show was originally called "The Amazing Hannigans," then it was changed to "The Amazing O'Malleys," then it was changed to "Wizards of Waverly Place," then to "Disney's Wizards," and finally back to "Wizards of Waverly Place."

The façade of Tribeca Academy, where the Russo children go to school, despite there being no such place, is actually PS 40, which is in the Gramercy neighborhood of Manhattan on East 20th Street between First and Second Avenue, and is actually northeast of Tribeca.
Show was originally going to take place in Ireland.
Several characters are named for characters from series in the 1960s. Mr. Laritate is named for the character played by David White in Bewitched (1964); Ms. Majorhealey for a character played by Bill Daily in I Dream of Jeannie (1965).
The part of Professor Crumbs was the last on screen role for Ian Ambercrombie who died shortly after the airing of the series finale.
Alex Russo and Justin Russo are the only characters that appear in all of the episodes.
In the Sub Station, there is a poster in the background for "Sublet", which is a blatant nod to the musical "Rent", as the word "sublet" is a synonym for "rent", and the posters are designed in similar styles.
Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, and Jennifer Stone became good friends.
The Greenwich Village setting was largely inspired by Creator Todd Greenwald's having grown up in Greenwich Village.

In season 4 episode 5 when Max turned into a girl he took a break from the show to get his grades up. He then came back season 4 episode 10 " back to Max"
In the Wizards of Apartment 13b storyline, there is a zombie living in the apartments named Abercrombie Zombie. Ian Abercrombie portrayed Professor Crumbs many times during the shows run.
