[TV] The Sad Reality of "Virtuality"

29 June 2009 12:08 AM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

So, who watched Virtuality Friday night? No? Didn't think so. Say bye-bye to this intriguing project, which was conceived as a pilot for a new series but aired as a movie when Fox didn't want to pick it up. Any chance of convincing them otherwise is a bust, as the broadcast resulted in truly abysmal ratings, no doubt ensuring its demise.

A lot of people who didn't know it was supposed to be a pilot episode of a series are apparently annoyed that it abruptly ended without a conclusion. It didn't work as a standalone movie, of course, because it was never meant to be. Most of the two-hour pilot are setting up conflicts for future episodes to explore. It's all the more aggravating for it, because the pilot really shows enormous potential for a fantastic drama should it be allowed to continue.

Taking cues from Danny Boyle's Sunshine—in fact,

The Battlestar Galactica creator talks about his new two-hour TV movie

While sci-fi fans across the globe may still be mourning the loss of their beloved Battlestar Galactica, they can get a new dose of sci-fi action from the show's creator. Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald Moore has a new sci-fi venture in the two-hour TV movie, Virtuality, which premieres on Friday, June 26 at 8 Pm Et on Fox. I was in on a conference call with Moore to discuss the new show... and the possibility of turning it into a series, and here's what he had to say.

Ron, one of the biggest questions people keep asking me about is how is it different from on Star Trek when you would have holodeck episodes and people would get lost in the holodeck. How is this different from that sort of scenario?

Ronald Moore: Well, it's a different concept. The holodeck

‘Battlestar Galactica’ Actor Richard Hatch Explains How A Movie Version Could Work

10 June 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

Just as remaking the original “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” film without consulting series mastermind Joss Whedon is nothing short of a Hollywood faux pas, it seems equally unthinkable to forge a big-screen “Battlestar Galactica” adventure without Ron Moore, creator of the recently finished television series. This may be a fairly common sentiment among fans of Moore’s politically-minded take on the classic science fiction franchise, but it appears that not every “Galactica” vet shares that feeling — so long as the film version is done right.

Richard Hatch, who played fighter pilot Apollo in the original ’70s-era “Galactica” series and then terrorist-turned-politician-turned-terrorist Tom Zarek in the latest incarnation, tells Moviehole that he’d be keen to see Universal Studios’ announced “Battlestar Galactica” film if it took a cue from the recent “Star Trek” revival.

“I think [Universal] saw the success Paramount had with their ‘Star Trek’ reboot. But unlike Paramount, who seems

Alessandra Torresani Joins The Runaways

9 June 2009 8:12 PM, PDT | From MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news

It seems the biopic on a famed 70s band has finally found its last band member. According to MTV, Alessandra Torresani has joined the cast of The Runaways.

The actress, who stars in the upcoming TV series Caprica, will portray guitarist Lita Ford. Kristen Stewart will portray Joan Jett, Dakota Fanning to play Cherie Curry, Stella Maeve to play Sandy West from the title band, who had such hits as "Cherry Bomb" during their brief four-year run in the 70s.

Filming was said to begin shortly on the biopic, with Torresani only having a week to learn how to play the guitar and rehearse with the rest of her movie bandmates.

'The Runaways' Finds Lita Ford

9 June 2009 1:45 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

The last fox we've been waiting for is finally here!

MTV reports that the last Cherry Bomb to fill out The Runaways is 22-year-old Alessandra Torresani. An actress who's popped up in a bunch of television shows (most notably: Caprica, the BSG spin-off), Torresani will play the tow-headed vixen Lita Ford. And with that, all the mainstays are accounted for. Rhythm guitarist Joan Jett is Kristen Stewart, drummer Sandy West is Stella Maeve, lead singer Cherie Currie is Dakota Fanning, and Torresani is lead guitarist Ford. There is, of course, the bassist to consider, but since a number of girls filled in (Micki Steele, Peggy Foster, Jackie Fox), it looks like they're keeping her off the main casting roster.

She doesn't have the musical chops yet (she starts learning how to play guitar on Monday), but I can definitely see that face belting out power ballads with Ozzy in a

‘Battlestar Galactica’, the Un and ‘The Plan’

5 June 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | From The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news

Thursday night in Los Angeles at the famous Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd., producers and cast members from Sci-Fi Channel’s groundbreaking series Battlestar Galactica got together with officials for the United Nations to discuss issues ranging from human rights to accountability to peace and justice throughout the world — and The Flickcast was there to bring you all the details.

Although these global issues are very important and worthy of discussion, because this is Hollywood, the panel also managed to talk a bit about Battlestar Galactica, the DVD release of the series and the upcoming movie The Plan.

Previously, this group had gotten together at the actual United Nations in New York, which we told you about, and this time around the topics of discussion for the first part of the evening were similar. First up was Sci-Fi Channel President Dave Howe who announced, among other things, that Battlestar Galactica

Review: ‘Caprica’

1 June 2009 7:15 AM, PDT | From The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news

We open on a group of sixteen year-olds wandering through a marble, sex covered, blood stained club. These three teenagers watch as a girl their age is sacrificed. One locks eyes with another girl close to the sacrificial altar. The girl close to the altar feels the glare and looks up to see an exact copy of herself staring her down. They are Zoe Graystone, one is alive and the other is a virtual representation.

Caprica the pilot is a clean, tight and intriguing episode set fifty-eight years before Battlestar Galactica and follows the Adama and Graystone families.  There is a Philip  K. Dick quality to this pilot with 1930s style, flying cars and monorails. It is a tight noir that explores the question: if you could have a loved one back from the dead, would you do whatever it took to make it happen?

Boiled down, that is what this entire show is about,
