Storyline

Joey's acting career in Actors Studio is a success, but when the audience may raise questions it's all girls who wine about him dating and then dumping them, just now he tries to convince Alex to let him take Dean's place. 'Bastard' Michael is excited to hear his dad Jimmy intends to marry his mother Gina; hearing he lacks money for a ring, ring-bearer-to-be Michael suggests his college's well-payed allergy drug test- they only take duos, so Joey grudgingly takes the same pills and gets massive side-effects, although Michael knows he is in the control group which only got placebos. Joey discovers there's also a Barry in Alex's love-life... Written by KGF Vissers

Adam Goldberg steals the episode...again
15 June 2016 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

It must have been hard for everyone involved in the show to put a brave face and make the best episodes possible, while knowing they were destined to rarely see the light of day.

It's sad therefore that such a monumental moment in the life of Joey (him committing to one woman) should appear in a poor episode. The scenes between Joey and Alex are well written, but are sandwiched in between a week 'Inside the Actors Studio' plot and the now regular B story involving Jimmy and as many of the other characters as possible. To be fair to Goldberg though, he was able to turn in great performances with very limited material.

If they were struggling for ideas they could've used the 'Inside the Actors Studio' set-up to turn the episode into a clip show of Joey's acting career across 'Friends' and here, but this was not to be the case.

Drea De Matteo started the series as 'Matt LeBlanc's number two, so it is sad to see an actress of her calibre being reduced to what is essentially an episode of storming in and out of doors. She had some nice plots dedicated to her working in Bobbie's office at the start of the season and even managed decent screen time when being Alex's confidant about her relationship with Joey. By this stage though she is even playing second fiddle to Goldberg.

There are some funny lines along the way, but this episode, of all the ones that were made but unaired in the US, is the one that in places feels flat.
