Storyline

Helen is incensed when rumors spread around town that she and Andy are engaged. She's sure Andy had something to do with it but its all news to him as well. It seems that Goober and Barney went to an auction where the Deputy bought an old game made up of an oil lamp and Tarot-like cards. As a result of a series of coincidences, Barney comes to believe that it can make your wishes come true. He gives Opie three wishes. His first is that he have a pocket knife and sure enough, Andy soon gives him one. His second is that he gets a B in arithmetic and sure enough, he gets it. When Barney thinks his third wish is for Andy and Helen to get married, it's a foregone conclusion as far as he is concerned. Only thing is, Opie didn't wish for them to be married but for something else. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

Andy references Opie's three wishes a few episodes later in "The Lucky Letter." See more »

Goofs

In this episode, the back room of the courthouse where Barney conducts his séances, has no back door to the outside. In a couple scenes, the wall that normally holds the door to the alley outside instead has a jail cell window at the top of the wall and no door. This window is complete with vertical iron bars and a very thick, sloping sill just like the windows in the jail cells. See more »

User Reviews

One of the best TAGS episodes of all time.
18 August 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Barney and the supernatural is always a combination for good comedy. Add Goober and Floyd to the mix and you get a hilarious combination of the super-funny! Barney buys some fortune telling cards and an old lamp. He gets a book learns just enough to earn some laughs. Opie gets 3 wishes, 2 of which come true as does a wish that Barney makes. Andy, as always, tries to bring some common sense to the table but as everyone knows, when Barney gets on a tear, he's gonna be on it until it runs its course. The séance scene with Barney, Floyd and Goober is classic and makes this one of the best TAGS episodes ever.

I won't spoil the ending for you but you won't be disappointed.
