Hollywood — You might not have heard the name Nicole Perlman much as it pertains to Marvel properties, but she's a big reason why "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be making its way to theaters next weekend. She toiled away as a screenwriter for a few years after her days at Nyu, cooking up projects with a science bent because that's where her passions lie — projects like "Challenger," a fascinating account of the investigation of the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster written as a love letter to Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. Then, she made her way to the comic book giant under the company's now-defunct screenwriting program and plucked the intergalactic heroes from obscurity, setting them on a crash course for the silver screen. It may be largely James Gunn's colorful vision on that screen, but it's definitely Perlman's passion that helped bring the property to the table in the first place. »

After The Vampire Diaries left fans with their collective jaw on the floor following the season five finale last May, the network is bringing in some fresh blood for the upcoming season (no pun intended). Former Eureka star Colin Ferguson has just been cast in a recurring role, and it looks like the saying ‘anything goes’ is the overarching motto for the new season.
Ferguson will play Tripp, a community militia leader and surrogate father figure to his trainees. His character is described as handsome, strong and disciplined, and according to executive producer Julie Plec, he’s going to give Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) a run for her money.
This new addition to the cast definitely sounds interesting and it’ll be exciting to see how his character holds up when all of our favorite supernaturals eventually make it back to Mystic Falls after being displaced by a no magic spell. »

Gravitas Ventures has dropped a trailer and a poster for its upcoming horror release, "The Last Light." The film takes place after an apocalypse where seven strangers find themselves trapped in a building, struggling to survive as they are hunted by a mysterious creature. Cast members for "The Last Light" include Edward Furlong ("Terminator 2: Judgement Day"), Jeff Fahey ("Planet Terror," "Machete"), Yvonne Zima ("ER") and Ed Quinn ("Eureka"). The superimposition of shots and sound at the beginning of "The Last Light" trailer suggests that the film is, perhaps, a meditation on the tenuous relationship between time and memory. It remains to be seen how far writer/director/producer Andrew Hyatt can dig into this issue before giving up to the more excessive "gore-like" conventions of the horror genre. "The Last Light" will be made available on iTunes and OnDemand starting June 3rd. Check out the poster and trailer below: »
